Program Outline
- Introduction
- Start in the chapel with a video of counselors interviewing answering the question "Who is your Jesus?". These are supposed to be touching stories that set the mood.
- Transition into the confession of their sins
- Campers take time to reflect and to write down their sins in the form of a letter.
- Groups will take turn writing their confessions on a life size cross covered with flash paper. The cross will be covered in their sin.
- At this time, campers are also writing a letter to themselves (see minutes)
- Flash paper will be pretty much harmless.
- Carrying the crosses
- The group leaders will carry the large crosses together.
- The others campers will carry their team crosses, or individual crosses they make.
- Stations
- There will be path or a trail in the woods which are "lit" by reflectors. Counselors and/or campers will carry these flash lights.
- There will be stations along the path which are points in Jesus life. These stations lead to the crucifixion.
- These stations will be lit by candles or a flash light hanging from a tree branch above.
- Final station will be dramatic.
- The trail will then lead to the field, where the final part and actual confession begins.
- Crucifixion
- Do the silent skit where the crucifixion is told from the thief's point of view.
- The thief is crucified, then Jesus is crucified. After Jesus is crucified, the flash paper is lit, and their sins are forgiven, and they are again pure.
- Confession
- We are trying to get four to five priests for the program to keep the program duration shorter.
- The campers will get to choose to go to a priest and they read their letters of confession.
Discussion
So this is what I'm envisioning. The silent skit is performed, and Jesus and the thief are crucified. But during the time where the campers are actually confessing, Jesus and the thieves remain up on the cross. After confession, which hopefully won't take long, soft music plays, and the spear is pierced into Jesus. The campers see Jesus and the thief dying on the cross. Then Jesus steps down as if the body is left on the cross and his spirit is now walking. He brings down the thief from the cross and lifts him up facing the campers. Then the flash paper is lit, flood lights are shining towards the campers and all they can see is the silhouette of Jesus holding the thief. Loud operatic chorus playing in the background, stuff like that. (Geun)
