- Mitch 3

Program Ideas
Ms. Baltimore
- Joe Hwang
- American Idol/So You Think You Can Dance/Project Runway. Building on the idea of America's next top model, create a huge reality show for hanna production. They are being judged on singing, dancing, modeling, fashion, etc..etc.
- A suggestion for the hanna production theme is 'Timeline' ex. 50s, 60s. They are to represent different time periods. This might not work well with the big reality show idea.
20 Questions
- Sabina Yi
- Campers ask 20 questions to Counselors
Rosary Program
- Jung Joo and Esther Kim
- This program is split into two programs.
- The first program is to teach the campers the history, the meaning, and the proper way to pray the rosary.
- The second program is actually praying the rosary?
- This can be done over the course of the camp. The campers will have the option to pray the rosary with the counselors at night.
- The idea of making a rosary was also suggested. Similar to winter retreat.
- This program is split into two programs.
FOB Program
- Anna Kil
- 2 skits
- Game skit like 'Thank God Your Here', where one person from each group is separated, while the other members have to perform a skit. The separated member returns to improv their way through the skit.

- Explain the hurdles they faced as Catholics

- Joe is now leader of Historian group.
6/7
Announcements
- Meetings are every Thursday at 8:30PM and Sunday after Mass.
- Three-strike policy goes into effect starting 6/14. Three unexcused misses equal no camp.
- Sunday Mass is MANDATORY for all counselors. Missing Mass may count as a strike.
- Materials list is due by 6/30. This means all materials for programs must be finalized, even if the program itself is still under construction.
- Camp T-Shirt is Geun's idea of the universal symbol of peace with the spikes coming off of it.
- Slogan: removed first 2 lines. Movements are still unknown.
What do we need? We need Peace! Who do we need? We need Jeez--uuus!
Chasing Game
- Still brainstorming, nothing concrete.
- Will use the GPS program from a previous year as a model.
- All teams will try to answer a riddle given to them at the beginning using clues they get from different stations.
- Map of Summit Lake will be provided for the kids so they don't get lost like last time. Well they did get lost even with maps. So we need better ways to do this.
- In previous year, Charles was playing the role of Satan and was meant to deceive the campers. This year, there should also be someone who helps them.
- Include Korean into the riddles.
Theme Workshop
- 3 days, 3 different verses. Try to frame the camp verse with context.
- Mitch - will work on the verse preceding the theme verse
- Andrew - will work on the actual theme verse
- Ray - will work on the verse proceding the theme verse
Program Ideas
- Mitch:
- Teams jump onto block in pool; whole team must jump on trampoline & land on raft in water w/o falling off (need to check if Summit Lake will allow it)
- Have teams jump from platform to platform as the platforms get smaller
- We must see if this program is feasible. These blocks need to be soft. How do we get these blocks to float in the middle of the water. Or we can use inflatable rafts. Maybe an inflatable bed can work.
- Will
- Discussion program about peace
- Individual meditation, group discussion, and short skits about a verse/story
- Campers given questions, they reflect on them and answer to themselves.
- They will share their opinions or feelings with the group.
- Counselors will perform a skit, but the will leave it unfinished. The campers will finish it.
- This can possibly be a silent skit.
- Purposely, the campers will not be given a lot of preparation time. Don't want the campers to 'try' to make it funny.
- Andy H.
- Puzzle – figuring out puzzle is like finding peace
- Puzzle of bible verse or something
- Andrew
- Mosaic program
- Take pictures that pertain to certain aspects of everyday life where kids might definitely have trouble finding peace in
- Pictures of kids struggling with schoolwork or parents.
- The campers don't know yet that this is part of a mosaic. They think they're just seeing a slide show of pictures.
- Each of the slides represent an individual taking on the struggle on at a time. As they see more and more struggle, they become overwhelmed.
- It will then zoom out and the individual pictures will make up a mosaic of a picture of Jesus.
- There can be many interpretations of the mosaic. e.g. We can focus on the details, but we also need to look at the big picture.
- Peter
- Talk about peace on a bigger scale (ex. World)
- Newscast/slideshow of events in history of the world of different events of war and peace – semi-explicit, but nothing too graphic. They must grip the campers' attention.
- Columbine, VTech, etc.
- A couple counselors who would play newscasters would narrate each event quietly while lights are dimmed
- Leads to discussion about peace in the world and state of the world
- Sabina
- Game-show program to get to know the counselors
- Ask questions to the counselors to reveal a secret talent or something revealing.
- Could be filler program, icebreaker
- Could be used/combined with Joe H.’s program
- Yeyoung
- Based on “The seven sacraments” from a previous summer camp where we reenacted each of the seven sacraments at different stations.
- For this program the campers will reenact significant parts of Jesus' life instead.
- In order to have peace within Jesus, we need to know who Jesus is.
- Catherine
- Break down the order of mass and explain the importance of each part.
- We have done this before in a previous year as a chasing game activity, but we can do it again?
- John
- Finding God in a deck of cards
- Each card represents something different (ex 52 cards, 52 weeks, etc.)
- Puzzle program
- Geun
- Silent skits – breaks language barrier, makes it more emotional
- Could be used in Will’s skits
6/2
Survey Analysis from SC06 was presented. The comments and suggestions made by the campers were addressed and discussed. Included is some of the major points from the slides and the counselor discussion.
Money
- Mr. Kang needs the material list by Saturday June 30, 2007 so he can update the forms and fee and send it out to Korea, Harrisburg, Philadelphia, Cleveland, and Baltimore.
Slogan
We don't need Anxiety What do we need We need Peace Who do we need We need Je.....sus
Agreed on the slogan but need motions.
Discussions
- In the Lack of Spirit program last year, campers liked having the option to choose which fruit they needed the most help with. Last year the theme nicely lend itself to being split up.
- This year, we should keep the idea that campers have a choice in their discussion.
- One of the major problems from last year was that during the boy/girl discussion groups, the male campers were in smaller groups, while the female campers were in very large groups.
- The large groups made it hard for the girls to open up and share their feelings and opinions.
- These discussions should be a personal experience so we need to make smaller groups.
- We have more female counselors this year, so large groups can be made smaller, but due to the large number of campers this year, large groups could still present a problem.
- One of the possible reasons, the female campers had trouble opening up was because there were not that many discussions available to them. Having more discussion programs would allow more opportunities.
- Some of the campers from last year said they wouldn't mind being in a discussion with a male counselor. In the meeting, we tossed around the idea of co-ed discussion groups.
- The viability of co-ed groups cannot be be broadly classified into 'will work' or 'will not work'. The viability is largely depending on the topic being discussed. Female campers would probably not mind if they were in a co-ed discussion group about personal testimony, or talking about peace, etc.
- These gender-specific groups should be formed, when the issue being discussed is gender-specific.
- We discussed of having cabin reflections be opportunities for these gender-specific discussions.
- We did not come to a clear conclusion on what we will do about co-ed groups, and we will pursue this topic later on.
Free Time
- Tight schedule. Felt short on time and rushed.
- Free time would let them be rested and pumped up during camp. Piling on program after program may feel okay for the counselors, but the campers need times to just decompress. These times of rest would keep the campers more attentive and engaged during the camp.
- Free time would allow time to bond and share with other campers.
- This year, it should be a priority for the campers to sleep on time. In the past, campers have gone to bed too late and woken up too early.
- More does not mean better. We always have a lot of good ideas for camp, but cramming it all in four days can detract from the overall camp. More programs does not make the camp better. Instead, we should focus on developing fewer programs that are stronger.
Programs
- Chasing game.
- Chasing game is always well-received by the campers. It is about pushing yourself and others and learning to work together as a team.
- For the past several years, chasing game has pretty much been more of the same.
- In order to refresh the program, we are considering bringing back GPS from a few years ago. This is when the teams are walking around through the forest in order to accomplish some goal.
- Bringing back GPS has not been confirmed by the consensus yet.
- Several of the comments made addressed how some of the programs would have been better if there was a clear connection to the camp theme. Some programs, especially the fun ones, tend to a vague connection to the theme. Programs should tried to be designed with the theme in mind. If they are fun programs, we should find a way to connect.
- One of the campers mentioned that the skits helped them learn better. The lecture or discussion style might not work for all campers, especially the younger ones. We must consider how to send the message too all campers.
- Camp Fire
- Brings the entire camp together.
- Small and uncomfortable.
- One of the campers commented that the campfire site is too small and uncomfortable. This has felt like a problem for the past several years. The campsite we have been using has just been too small for us.
- We concluded that the campfire would need to be moved to the campfire site near the volleyball courts. This would give us ample room for the large amount of campers this year.
- We used this campfire site our first year at Summit Lake, and at the time it was too large. This site should work out for us this year. And like that first year, we would need to take benches from the kitchen to the campsite.
- We need to work on the transition from Hanna production into campfire. Hanna production is fun and crazy, where campfire is supposed to be a time of quiet reflection. We need to find a way to ease into campfire.
- We did not come up with a solution to the transition.
- Praise.
- has always been well-received by the campers, but there are always those that choose to sit or stay in the back. We need to find ways to keep them spiritually engaged while choosing to not sing.
- We discussed having visuals or pictures during the praise program so that those who choose not to sing can still receive the word. They will have a chance to reflect. It was also mentioned that these visuals or slides should be translated into Korean.
- In addition, there could also be body worship along with the praise.
- To further engage the campers from Korea would might be more reluctant to participate, there should also be Korean praise songs.
- Hanna Production
- This was not addressed during the meeting and it was mentioned after. Hanna production should be appropriate. In the past, the contestants would strip and other inappropriate acts. We must warn the contestants to take discretion when performing.
- Also afterwards, it was suggested of doing a "Timeline" theme for Ms. Baltimore. We would have the groups do a specific era 20's ,60's, 70's, future, etc.
Counselors
- Liked counselors praying for them. Campers like talking with counselors at night.
- The sentiment I felt when reading over the comments was that campers want a closer relationship to the counselors. The counselors should be both a hyung/noona and a friend during the camp. Counselors must make an effort to get closer to the campers.
- MCs go overboard sometimes.
- Punishments were tiring.
- There were more than a few comments regarding the punishments doled out by the MCs. A counselor commented that these punishments were bordering on hazing. MCs should take discretion when punishing the kids.
- Counselors have a tendency to yell at campers throughout camp. We must also make sure to always be supportive.
- Some campers are more sensitive, so the way our camp works should be explained beforehand so they know what to expect.
- Points should be awarded for teamwork in addition to points for winning. This slightly softens the competitiveness of camp and it encourages a team to be always be positive and to work together.
Miscellaneous
- Too many first-timers made it hard for the team. We should try to evenly distribute the young campers.
- Allow seniors to stay up. Let them bond.
- After a few minutes of discussion, the counselors decided to let the senior stay up only to a certain time on the last day of camp. They can stay up until 3 hours after the last program.
- Better shirt sizes.
- On a slightly different note, it was mentioned that the group leaders should be called together on the first day to tell them what is expected of them and what they need to do.
- Ideally, shirt sizes should be requested at time of registration, but since there are always last minute registrants, this makes it hard. T-shirt sizes will be on the registration forms, and those that register late will have a lower priority.
- Registration will be done earlier.
- Start and end each day with God. Cabin members pray with each other.
- The counselors decided that in the morning after the campers rush to the exercise field, each of the teams will pray amongst themselves. Then at night time, the cabin members pray together.
- It was suggested to make this evening prayer a program.
