Richie Ryan is Duncan MacLeod's student. In the first episode, The Gathering, Richie breaks into DM's antique store, intent on theft. DM catches him and takes him in. Over a season later, Richie is killed while attempting (and failing) to defending DM fiance Tessa Noel in the episode The Darkness. This turns out to be Richie's first death, as he revives as an immortal. (Speculation is that DM sensed that Richie was a pre-immortal and that that is why he took him in.)
