HereIsFree is a web application for holding discussions and posting user generated content. HereIsFree is also commonly referred to as HIF. The term "here is free" refers to the message board's mafioso philosophy. The forum performs a similar function as the dial-up bulletin board systems and Internet newsgroups that were numerous in the 1980s and 1990s. Discusión General, Smash Bros, and Retro Gaming are very popular sub-forums of HIF, but there are also sub-forums for a number of other topics.
Reputation and Philosophy
The discussion board hereisfree.com was created by some of ign.com's most infamous users, many of which have been permanently banned from the aforementioned website's message board system altogether. Currently hereisfree.com is growing at an exponential rate; as many as 3 new users have joined daily since it spawned out of it's predecessor: masterblaster.tomkinet.com forums. Although most of the regular users on hereisfree.com have acquired notorious reputations for being misanthropic and unnecessarily intolerant toward new posters, in truth they are a very gentlemanly group who only wish to instill good values and posting habits for the future generations of posters on all forums and message boards; but especially ign.com's Super Smash Bros. board, as it has perpetually become a haven for vexatious message-boardees.
Jihad
A formal, non-partisan declaration of war on a rival message board or forum.
The Black List
The black list refers to a list of a group of posters on ign.com's Super Smash Bros board who were being obnoxious during the bronze age of ign. When they wouldn't cooperate with Ultimate_Cartman's investigation, refusing to admit to being obnoxious, or to name names of others who might be obnoxious, they were sentenced to jihad for contempt of message boarding civility. They were also banned from posting on ign, until Emunator found a way to possibly lift such bans. A great deal of mystery shrouds the the underground network of users on hereisfree.com. User MeGaBiTe is rumored to lead a group of rebels, though no plausible evidence has been presented thus far.
