Jarryd's hair is always maintained in a short, regulation cut, and the rare times when he is seen out of uniform, his clothing tends to be highly conservative and business-like. He typically wears a pair of gold-rimmed glasses, or corrective goggles during combat operations.
Biography
Ivar Jarryd served with the Mars Confederacy military during the tumultuous years known as the "Warring States" period, during which time he was assigned to a special operations commando unit. Although he was a fully qualified pilot, with a specialty in lightly armored, high-mobility Mobile Suits, many of his missions involved non-mechanized infiltration and sabotage. Jarryd developed a reputation for discretion in neutralizing threats to Martian authority, for though several of his methods could be considered unethical, he left no concrete links between his actions and the Confederacy. As a result, Jarryd became highly valued by his government for his unquestioning loyalty to Mars, and his willingness to take on tasks that others may have found distasteful.
At some point in his career, Ivar Jarryd was subjected to a form of intense mental conditioning, possibly including a neuro-surgical procedure, based on information gathered during Project Akuma. Rather than attempt to instill Newtype abilities, these procedures seem to have been intended to counteract a mental Newtype's ability to read Jarryd's thoughts or intentions. The operations had mixed results: his ability to express emotion was largely suppressed, to the point where his mental state is difficult to determine even for psychics, though his ability to interact on a personal level was also severely stunted. Mars seems to be his only true passion now, leaving some to say that he sold his soul to the god of war.
