Character Background
The lack of a centralized figure who was the overseer of Gemini Foundation genetics had always troubled Derick lang. On March 3, 2007, he created a character (based on an image for a Gemini character that was never used) to fill this role. Her name is a combination of three people and concepts which shape the character. The first is Madame Helena Blavatsky (birth name Helena Petrovna Hahn), who was an anti-semitic early-modern mystic who influenced Aryanism. The second name, Devi, is a common name in India. The usage is based off Savitri Devi, another Aryanism supporter who herself was born European, but saw a linkage between Indian and Nazi civilization. Both these figures are femlae examples of how far eugenics can go, and how they can alter thinking about concepts of race through idealogy. Devanagari, the final name, can be translated either as 'City of the Gods' (which Gods being what Gemini members often considered themselves) or as a reference to a perfect human body. Both of these interpretations can be tied into the character's desire and ultimate fate.
