Personal Information
Appearance
A tall, stolidly built young Southern woman barely out of her teens, clad in utilitarian clothing: a bustier and cropped jacket, wide sash and loose pants like a Delzahn rider, gloves with what looks to be some sort of iron alloy plate covering them, and leather steel-toed boots. Her bright shock of long red hair is bound in several braids and tied loosely out of her face, and she usually wears a cheerful, somewhat cocksure grin. She's not really beautiful, but she has a bit of a presence in a room. Her eyes are the color of desert carnelians, strangely mottled with the same color in the pupils, giving the effect of a starlit night sky.
History
Unfettered Glory in Strife, or Strife as she's better known, has never known a time in her life that wasn't dominated by warfare in some way. Her father, Bright Glory, was the captain of a mercenary company based out of Gem, one that called itself the Crimson Garda. Primarily it was a sword-for-hire outfit that lent its muscle to the Despot or the Tri-Khan (depending on which side paid the best), and the occasional hired guard for a rich Dragon-Blooded Dynast who wanted to dig for trinkets out in the deserts. Strife never knew her mother, and suspects her father had no idea either, as he was simply handed the child one day out of the blue by a man who claimed to be the woman's younger brother. Whatever the reason, Glory never complained, and proudly bestowed that beast of a name upon his only issue. Thus young Strife was taken on the road with the Crimson Garda and her father's dreams of personal glory, and grew up among rough men and women and the few children in the company who acted as their parents' pages.
A few of them resented her position as the captain's daughter and tried to bully her, but every time they did, Strife pushed back, often twice as hard. She was built tall and hefty for her age, and by the time she was nine years old she had become the natural leader of the mercenary children: a young tomboy with a hot temper, a knack for fighting, and a preternatural sense of what it took to win. Despite her innate realization that not all battles can be won, she often fought them anyway. Strife wasn't terribly bright but she was honest, determined, and she had a good heart, and often appointed herself the defender of those weaker than she was. It wasn't uncommon for her to fight off bullies several years older than her, or chase off children throwing rocks at kittens or the like.When she was thirteen, Strife wasn't a full member of the Crimson Garda but she was taking part in jobs all the same, much to her father's pleasure. The company tactician was impressed by the girl's aptitude and took her on as an apprentice when she was fifteen.
However, all things end eventually, and the Five Maidens eventually saw fit to set in motion the events that would lead her to the gates of Yu-Shan. Two years ago, finding itself short on mortal manpower, the Wyld Hunt chapter in Chiaroscuro purchased a contract with the Garda to serve as an auxiliary unit to their shikari and two Immaculate monks. The work was extremely dangerous, as the target was a confirmed Anathema, but it also paid well and Glory couldn't resist the opportunity for the Crimson Garda to be known as a company whose work was good enough to attract the notice of the Realm.
The fight went poorly, at least at first. Their target was a fairly recently-Exalted deathknight of the First and Forsaken Lion but he was powerful for all that, and the demoralized Hunt quickly found itself at an impasse. During the savage fighting, eighteen-year old Strife saw her father cut in half before her eyes. Immediately she perceived that in order to save his friends and comrades, the evildoer had to be defeated... but they needed a leader. She picked up his sword and rallied the Garda, changing tactics to something more viable for a mortal force, and between them and the Dragon-Blooded, they managed a hard-won victory.
It was as they were building pyres for the dead, collecting personal effects and taking a head count that one of the Immaculate monks approached young Strife and drew her aside, explaining that he had a proposal for her... and the rest, as they say, is history.
