* I should mention here that his family name is Cho, and the name that his parents gave him in Namhwa.  Dynasts frequently referred to him by his family name because of how unusual it was for the South and the Southern Blessed Isle, so he's become accustomed to hearing it as his name.

* Cho has had four patients die.  The first one was a beggar Cho was taking care of.  He had a broken nose, and Cho didn't know to wash it out.  The wound went septic, gave him a brain fever, then he died a few days later.  The second was a citizen who lost his lower left leg to a shark.  Cho didn't know that he was severely allergic to the exotic shellfish extract that his master used as a clotting agent (from the West).  The third was someone who died when Cho accidentally struck their Mind chakra.  Cho still has no idea precisely where that chakra is, because he didn't notice the patient was brain dead until three-quarters of the way through the treatment.

The last patient to die on him was his old master. Cho was attempting to remove a pancreatic tumor with his instructions, but couldn't remove all of it.  Cho blames himself for his master wasting away into a pain-wracked wretch.

Cho has recently come to see himself as the "Black Hand of Saturn," a dread opponent of disease and infidelity and quiet friend to loyal and "good" people.  Cho's essence has settled itself into a black light effect, and previously shapeless voids form into tiny butterflies that grow in number as Cho's peripheral essence expenditure blossoms into a bright purple/black aura.

=== Core of Cho<br===
+
<u>Motivation</u>: Cho's former motivation was to ''find a way to resurrect his true love and former wife, Red Diamond.''  Cho Namhwa recently underwent startling revelations by delving into the past lives that still linger on the seed-shard he carried within him.  By pressing his conscious into it, though, he's discovered that death clears the way for new life.  Cho has decided to pay his final respects to ''Red Diamond,'' then move on to his purpose of... What?  Cho's current motivation is to <u>establish a firm tradition that binds together people for life,</u> romantically speaking. This will not only bring an end to a person's promiscuity, but makes way for them to grow together with their partner, not unlike a trestle being the best instrument to grow jasmine and other plants on.
-
<u>Motivation</u>: Cho is determined to <u>find a way to resurrect his true love and former wife, Red Diamond</u>.  Cho won't talk about the circumstances surrounding her death, but rumor has it that it was suicideAdditionally, he's not quite sure about how to go about accomplishing it, but his research has shown that dreams may be woven into reality in the Wyld, and Fair Folk may do it for someone who doesn't know how.
+
<u>''Intimacies''</u>: Cho was dedicated first and foremost to his ''<u>deceased wife, Red Diamond</u>'', and he still holds a place in his heart for her memoryHe keeps her in mind now, as a paragon of loyalty, betrayedThe remaining element of his life with her is his ''<u>his dear dog, Sunny</u>''.  She accompanies him everywhere.  The remainder of what drives Cho is the desire to ''<u>heal the sick</u>'' and ''<u>learn more about medicine</u>''.  With Exaltation, though, Cho has become one of the best doctors in all of Creation (at least among mortals).  He would be thrilled to find out more.  Cho recently gained an intimacy of ''<u>respect for the Sun</u>'', due to Zhubin's teachings in the place formerly known as Gem.  Cho has gained a new '''hatred''' for '''<u>demons</u>''' and '''<u>Fair Folk</u>''', due to his previous Exaltations' admittedly prejudiced point of view.  He has a small soft spot in his heart for the Provider and others associated with him, but it's not quite an intimacy yet.  Cho possesses one more intimacy, and one that he holds dearly: ''<u>respect for established romances</u>''.
-
<u>''Intimacies''</u>: Cho is dedicated first and foremost to his ''<u>deceased wife, Red Diamond</u>''His home has been very lonely since her death, and Cho hasn't gone anywhere except for the library in the last few months.  His only companion has been ''<u>his dog, Sunny</u>''.  She accompanies him everywhere, even to the library.  Grandmother Bright thinks that his pure breed  Golden Retriever (a gift from his parents) is very sweetIt's at her express approval that Sunny is allowed to accompany Cho to the ruins of the city library.  The remainder of what drives Cho is the desire to ''<u>heal the sick</u>'' and ''<u>learn more about medicine</u>''.
+
<u>Quirks</u>: Cho is a collector.  He likes to collect things, and was heartbroken when his wife destroyed her art collection in their home.  Cho's current focus is ''books'' for a private library and ''martial arts'' for his new-found prowess.  Cho is also interested in collecting ''medical techniques'', a tie-in with an intimacy.

In the last few months, Cho has become a changed person.  One he was a socialite who was always attending soirees, meeting with Dynasts, and trying to improve the quality of life of the common personSince his wife passed away, though, he's quit dedicating so much time to everyone else. He doesn't have time for parties (though he would still like to attend), nor does he go out of his way all the time to help others.

Cho has had to do his fair share of heavy lifting in his line of work.  In addition to moving cadavers about in an effort to learn more about the human body, Cho also learned how to fish from his parents, and has enjoyed playing some sports with the Dynasts that he's rubbed elbows withA sound mind in a sound body. <br>

Cho's parents were excellent specimens of how beautiful people can be.  Cho has a glimmer of that, and his well-defined features are part of what attracted his wife to him.  His handsome Western looks also make him appear "exotic" to his Dynast and Southern friends, and his decent personality keeps him from being offensive.  He's just below six feet tall and his skin has already leathered a bit from his ethnicity's natural tendency to brown.  He wears a short curly goatee only on his chin, and his curly hair is cropped close to his head.  His eyes are a bright and clear lavender, a nice complement to his weathered, wrinkled skin.<br>

Cho's quick wit was the other thing that attracted his wife to him.  He's always got a comeback or a joke to tell, and is rarely caught flat-footed.  Additionally, he's contributed to medical literature in both Southern and Dynast libraries.  His most valuable contribution is the translations that he's willing to do, though.  Because the Dragon-blooded are hardier than their mortal kin, they invest less time translating First Age medical literature into modern tongues. <br>

&nbsp;<u>Traditional Dawn</u> Cho has never been terribly martially inclined, but he's been in a few barfights in his dayHis technique is completely unrefined, though.
+
<u>Journeys</u> Cho was born traveling, and has decent sea legs.  In fact, Cho has a knack for sailing, and enjoys it whenever he can get away to the ocean.  Cho is also fairly comfortable around all sorts of beasts of burden.  Cho's time of the road has toughened him significantly, and he's learned how to move in the wilderness comfortablyWell, not comfortably, but it would take a harsh place to starve him.

<u>Traditional Twilight</u> Cho is well schooled in history (with particular interests in local, Southern, Western, and Dynastic histories), international relations, and medicine in particularIn his most recent research, he's looked into how the Fair Folk and denizens Creation see each other, but he still only has a very basic idea.
+
<u>Serenity</u> Cho's interpersonal skills are limited in scope.  He conducts himself well in formal situations, and has developed an incredible wealth of knowledge about language through diligent study.  Most noticeable is Cho's inability to carry a tune, even in a bucket with two handlesAlmost as embarrassing is Cho's usual reaction to a punch is to block it, either with his fist or his face.

Except that her behavior always mirrors Cho's.  Cho's Dynast friends think that it's very quaint that he keeps an animal, though Cho likes to think that she keeps him.  Naturally, he's picked up a bit of veterinary medicine in his time, though it mostly just applies to dogs.

[edit] Core of Cho, Chosen of Saturn

Cho has recently come to see himself as the "Black Hand of Saturn," a dread opponent of disease and infidelity and quiet friend to loyal and "good" people. Cho's essence has settled itself into a black light effect, and previously shapeless voids form into tiny butterflies that grow in number as Cho's peripheral essence expenditure blossoms into a bright purple/black aura.

Motivation: Cho's former motivation was to find a way to resurrect his true love and former wife, Red Diamond. Cho Namhwa recently underwent startling revelations by delving into the past lives that still linger on the seed-shard he carried within him. By pressing his conscious into it, though, he's discovered that death clears the way for new life. Cho has decided to pay his final respects to Red Diamond, then move on to his purpose of... What? Cho's current motivation is to establish a firm tradition that binds together people for life, romantically speaking. This will not only bring an end to a person's promiscuity, but makes way for them to grow together with their partner, not unlike a trestle being the best instrument to grow jasmine and other plants on.

Intimacies: Cho was dedicated first and foremost to his deceased wife, Red Diamond, and he still holds a place in his heart for her memory. He keeps her in mind now, as a paragon of loyalty, betrayed. The remaining element of his life with her is his his dear dog, Sunny. She accompanies him everywhere. The remainder of what drives Cho is the desire to heal the sick and learn more about medicine. With Exaltation, though, Cho has become one of the best doctors in all of Creation (at least among mortals). He would be thrilled to find out more. Cho recently gained an intimacy of respect for the Sun, due to Zhubin's teachings in the place formerly known as Gem. Cho has gained a new hatred for demons and Fair Folk, due to his previous Exaltations' admittedly prejudiced point of view. He has a small soft spot in his heart for the Provider and others associated with him, but it's not quite an intimacy yet. Cho possesses one more intimacy, and one that he holds dearly: respect for established romances.

Quirks: Cho is a collector. He likes to collect things, and was heartbroken when his wife destroyed her art collection in their home. Cho's current focus is books for a private library and martial arts for his new-found prowess. Cho is also interested in collecting medical techniques, a tie-in with an intimacy.

Willpower: 7
(5/7 remain)

Cho has always been a willful person since his childhood, but he's more driven than ever now that he realizes his huge mistake (secret!).

Compassion: 5
Conviction: 3
Temperance: 3
Valor: 3

In the last few months, Cho has become a changed person, which has culminated with a revelation from the Maiden of Endings. Cho sees it as his sacred charge to ensure that things are held together until their preordained end comes to term.

Essence: 3 (8/13) (37/37)

[edit] Attributes

Physical

Strength 3 Dexterity 5 Stamina 3

Cho has had to do his fair share of heavy lifting in his line of work. In addition to moving cadavers about in an effort to learn more about the human body, Cho has spent several months on the road, and his body has become as strong as he'd ever thought he'd be. Violet energy now courses along with his blood, making him nearly supernaturally limber.

Social

Charisma 2 Manipulation 4 Appearance 3

Cho's parents were excellent specimens of how beautiful people can be. Cho has a glimmer of that, and his well-defined features are part of what attracted his wife to him. His handsome Western looks also make him appear "exotic" to his Dynast and Southern friends, and his decent personality keeps him from being offensive. He's just below six feet tall and his skin has already leathered a bit from his ethnicity's natural tendency to brown. He wears a short curly goatee only on his chin, and his curly hair is cropped close to his head. His eyes are a bright and clear lavender, a nice complement to his smooth and tan skin. Exaltation has brought bright ever-present sparkles into his eyes, and have equipped him with an unfamiliar and slightly cold cunning. Saturn gave him what he needs, not what he wants.

Mental

Perception 3 Intelligence 4 Wits 5

Cho's quick wit was the other thing that attracted his wife to him. The bright Shard of Saturn has sharpened his wit to that of an assassin's needle. Additionally, he's contributed to medical literature in both Southern and Dynast libraries. His most valuable contribution is the translations that he's willing to do, though. Because the Dragon-blooded are hardier than their mortal kin, they invest less time translating First Age medical literature into modern tongues.

[edit] Abilities

Journeys Cho was born traveling, and has decent sea legs. In fact, Cho has a knack for sailing, and enjoys it whenever he can get away to the ocean. Cho is also fairly comfortable around all sorts of beasts of burden. Cho's time of the road has toughened him significantly, and he's learned how to move in the wilderness comfortably. Well, not comfortably, but it would take a harsh place to starve him.

Serenity Cho's interpersonal skills are limited in scope. He conducts himself well in formal situations, and has developed an incredible wealth of knowledge about language through diligent study. Most noticeable is Cho's inability to carry a tune, even in a bucket with two handles. Almost as embarrassing is Cho's usual reaction to a punch is to block it, either with his fist or his face.

Battles Cho has discovered an innate talent for weapons recently. Improvised ones, such as rocks, sticks, pieces of wood, and handfuls of sand appeal to him most for their simple utility and availability.

Athletics: 2
-Essence Resurgent, 3m
Melee: 1

Secrets Cho likes the very idea of knowledge. He's a bit of a collector, and prides himself on putting forth hard work to ferret out the secrets that led him on his journey to through the South. Cho's mind has a natural inquisitiveness and talent for retaining knowledge.

Endings Cho has accepted his choices. He knows that he's made the wrong ones in the past, but his life isn't over because of them. Cho also believes that others shouldn't die from their mistakes, and thank goodness he has the ability to do something about the harm that comes to people. Cho's resolved not to repeat his mistakes, though, and keeps a strong mind as well as a puissant body. Cho's senses are keen to the world, and his wit is well-suited to navigating the complicated realm of any bureaucracy.

[edit] Equipment

  • 1 x Magic! trunk This trunk, for some reason, slides frictionlessly (not a word, but you get it, right?) along the ground.
  • Acupuncture Needles A gift from Zhubin, these add +1d10 to applicable medical rolls.
  • 5 x Books! Studies in the Forbidden Sorceries, Properties of Wyld Shaping, Known Fair Folk of the South, and a classic Western (by which I mean sea-going). The book Studies in the Forbidden Sorceries has a small section on resurrection in it. I believe all books are written in Old Realm. ...Except for the classical Western novel, of course, which is in Wave/Seatongue. Cho has also received So You're A Sidereal: A Guide To Being Drafted Into The Bureau Of Destiny as a helpful guide explaining the basics. Cho also stumbled upon a possible possession of an ancestor, a journal titled Unrepentant Jackal.
  • 1 x Mysterious Parchment It's from an old friend, the Provider.

[edit] Our Adventurer's Mechanical Backgrounds

Savant: 1
Cho's burgeoning memories of the first age are just the tip of his enlightenment.

Backing -- Bureau of Endings: 1
As one of the newest members to the Five-Score Fellowship, Cho is the low man on the totem pole.

Salary: 2
Cho Namhwa has been put on the Celestial payroll, ostensibly as an excuse for the Division of Endings to dispatch him as a Field Agent to fix the mess he's helped create. As the standard salary for Sidereals at F-5 (Essence 4, Medium Risk), Cho is getting paid a bit above what he's earned (yet). Hopefully this all works out okay!
Also, Cho's medical venture, coupled with his wife's incredible talent for art, left him with a moderate sum of money when he decided to leave Chiaroscuro. Most of his money is in [easy to carry form].

Contacts: 2
Cho made good friends with Grandmother Bright in Chiaroscuro. Her worshipers were kept healthy in exchange for enlightening a bright young doctor. Cho has also built a few solid relationships with Dynasts, particularly V'Neef Velure, a promising young scion of a young House.

Familiar: 3
Last, but possibly most importantly, is Cho Namhwa's dog. Sunny understands Seatongue very well, and is exceptionally obedient to Cho. She was a gift from his parents for his 10th birthday, and he's grown up with her. A traditional water dog from the West, she accompanied the family on fishing expeditions when Cho helped out with the family business, but quit going when he broke off to apprentice to a local doctor (who is long since dead). Sunny is fantastically loyal to Cho, though she's never bitten anyone. She growls at Cho's opponent whenever he gets belligerent, she's sweet when he's being sociable, and she is over-all exceptionally well-behaved (she also never toilets indoors!)... Except that her behavior always mirrors Cho's. Cho's Dynast friends think that it's very quaint that he keeps an animal, though Cho likes to think that she keeps him. Naturally, he's picked up a bit of veterinary medicine in his time, though it mostly just applies to dogs.

Familiar: 1
Anastasia the Essence Construct is a tiny little spider assigned to the troublesomely compassion Cho. Anastasia (sometimes referred to as Stasia) was named after a famous Northern sailor. We'll see what her temperment is like, but she's recently gained sentience as a being that... rarely gains sentience. She is considered a "Spirit-Shape Companion!" :)

Sifu: 5
We'll see what challenges await. Cho's Sifus know at least Water Dragon, Violet Bier of Sorrows, Resplendent Physician, Solar, and Dark Messiah Styles at the Celestial level. They also know Prismatic Arrangement of Creation and Citrine Poxes of Contagion Styles. Perhaps an epic quest for the awesome Border of Kaleidoscopic Logic Style is somewhere in the future?

Ally 2
The irascible Thrall, Bronze Faction supporter.

[edit] Out of Character Notes

  • I should mention here that his family name is Cho, and the name that his parents gave him is Namhwa. Dynasts frequently referred to him by his family name because of how unusual it was for the South and the Southern Blessed Isle, so he's become accustomed to hearing it as his name.
  • Cho's parents are presumed dead for about 10 years now. They were lost at sea when their courage apparently outstripped their abilities to navigate in a hurricane that hit the coast pretty hard.
  • Cho has had four patients die. Cho, with his nearly-complete understanding of the human body, can now wager guesses at where that chakra is.

The last patient to die on him was his old master. Cho was attempting to remove a pancreatic tumor with his instructions, but couldn't remove all of it. Cho blames himself for his master wasting away into a pain-wracked wretch.

  • Finally, Cho no longer has the Blessing of the Provider!
  • Cho has several Merits and Flaws he's unaware of. He has an Eternal Vow with someone who was named Erika, not that he knows what that is, and a couple of other benefits; on the other hand, he has certain Enemies, an Obligation owed to unknown parties, and certain other relics from his past and present.
  • Cho has tried to sever his connection to his former life. He smashed a thin black jade wristband that she carved for him, which is actually three bands of jade that appear to have been twisted into one. It was very precious to him.
  • Switched favored skill from Lore to Occult. Didn't change any XP stuff.
