Backstory
Austere Serpent was born Iselicus Stauracius, third son of the citizen's line of sorcerer-engineers. Alas, however, strange Fate had decided that he was not to simply grow up strong and sturdy, if quite clumsily barging through workshops. But perhaps we jump ahead too far?
In his first year of life, Stauracius showed an appreciation for the things that all babies do. To wit, food, sleeping, and making others clean up after him. The worst parts of this were to be thankfully grown out of. Though let no one doubt he still enjoys his food. And sleeping, though generally not alone at this point.
In his second year of life, he grew. And learned to walk. This spoke of much trouble to come. Concurrently, and compounding the issue of walking, Stauracius also began to show signs of growing. While regular growth would be a good thing, having a 30 month old who runs about like a six year old, is not.
During the third year, more growing. Also talking. And reading. His parents were happiest for the last one. It made that year very simple.
The fourth year.....is repetitive. We've established the base formula. On to the next exciting stage!
Adolescence. Here lies trouble. By now the basic tutoring in the family's traditions have begun, prior to enrollment in the full Academy. However, those earlier growth spurts hadn't stopped, leaving Stauracius extremely large. He had no fear of an errant blast, at the least, nor did he suffer any problems in assisting with the heavier labor. The theory behind the issues was acquired in a single lecture, or even in a glance at the machine. The practice, however? That was of some concern. So, to the Academy, he went. There to be trained, taught, and tutored. Or thrown out and onto the front-lines if he could not live up to his family name! So to the Sorcerer-Engineer's Academy he went, postponing his mandatory term of service in the 7th Legion.
At school, it was similar to home. His natural intellect carried him through his classes, and he slowly began to learn the value of working with the other students, using them to shore up his weak spots. This worked right up to the point he received the artifact he would have to repair as part of his test.
The Test: It went simply, at first. He made his way down the river, on a good transport with no problems. Until an angry local god decided to change the course of the river, causing the boat to wreck, dumping everyone into the water. While a soaking normally isn't much of a problem. the siaka lured in was. As the cargo, crew, and other passengers became little more than trailing streamers in the water, Austere sank. Never learning to swim seemed like a bad idea, now.
Description
At first glance, Austere is just that. From his tailed jacket with ruffled arm cuffs and perfect seams, to his impeccably tailored suit, there is not a single mote of dust anywhere. His glasses, the frames accented with jade for strength, shine brightly at all times, serving to merely enhance the glimmering green of his eyes. His hair is mildly unusual, however, being fashioned into a multitude of spikes, sweeping towards his neck, eerily reminiscent of the River Dragon. (In other words, his Tell is that he has the River Dragon spikes/crest!) (He's not Edgeworth in blue-green, with the ruffles on his sleeves instead of at his throat!....crap. He is.)
Bodily, he stands at 1.9 meters, and is solidly built, though not overly large. Instead of flaunting his size, however, he tends to downplay it, sitting frequently, nose buried in a book. Although somewhat...accident-prone, he moves with a sinuous grace at odds with his otherwise clumsy behavior.
