Get onto a weird platform

Right in the beginning of the game in the halo level, there are two pipes. One is really far down, and the other you use as a bridge. Stand near its edge, get on the slope, and fall. If you did it correctly, you'll land on the pipe with just about three bars of health left. You must then go back to check point, there's nothing else you can do.
