X-Ray doesn't affect timer

From the game Super Metroid for the Super Nintendo
Do the Glitched up room / reset glitch and reset your game (after saving). Once you restart your game, you'll start from the beginning of the game with all your items. When the timer starts, X-ray and the timer will continue, even though the game should have "frozen".
