there's still a little bit of you laced with my doubt
Tarana came from simple, uneventful roots: his parents were miners in a jade mining community, and it was pretty much very likely that their two children would follow in their paths. After all, while it was dangerous work, it was still a life to be content with, because it was easy to be happy the way things were, be happy with the things you did under Solar rule, with no inkling to change it. Inertia, no drive to change or do better because this was good enough.
That was the life that he was born into, and unlike the others around him, Tarana was not happy with it, deep down inside, but had no idea how to change it, struggling and yearning without a clear path to go on, making plans and trying to figure out what he would do, how he would do it, he just wanted something more then that, seeing the time until he was old enough to start working in the mines as well growing narrower and narrower. Until, that is, one day, which happened to be the first day he went down into the mines, there was an accident...and the mine shaft collapsed, trapping the workers inside.
His older sister was killed, and perhaps Tarana himself should have died, except that he refused to lay down and die. Refused to give up, tried to find a way out, no matter that he was trapped, in the dark, with wounded and dying fellow workers, and that the air supply would likely run out before anyone got there to rescue them. Because he couldn't die there. Not yet. None of them could.
And in the darkness, silver glowed, as he Exalted. He doesn't clearly remember what came soon after, only what came once the appropriate authorities took charge of him and sent him to Meru.
