Standardized tests, such as the ones listed below, are widely used as entry requirement for English-speaking countries, or as admission requirement for English-speaking Universities. Most of these are administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), which is a non-profit organization that was established in 1948, but still charges quite a bit for the tests. Additionally, the results are valid only for a few years, depending on the specific test, after which the scores become invalid and the test must be re-taken.

  • TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language
  • IELTS - International English Language Testing System
  • SAT - Scholastic Aptitude Test
  • GRE - Graduate Record Examination
  • GMAT - Graduate Management Admissions Test
