Standardized tests, such as the ones listed below, are widely used as entry requirement for English-speaking countries, or as admission requirement for English-speaking Universities. Most of these are administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETC), which is a non-profit organization that was established in 1948, but still charges quite a bit for the tests. Additionally, the results are valid only for a few years, depending on the specific test, after which the scores become invalid and the test must be re-taken.
