Amehara is a minor trade city on the border of lands traditionally controlled by the Bayushi and Doji families. Until recently, Doji Nakamura and his magistrates have kept the town relatively peaceful, but the arrival of a gang of vicious ronin bandits led by the duelist Nine-Finger Aoto has thrown the town into chaos. Yukiko's brother, Shiro, asks her and her friends to travel to Amehara to restore peace before the magistrate's men and the outlaw ronin go to war.
