Author explanation - "Lacerta" is the latin word for "lizard". This race was intended to be more or less a humanoid dinosaur type of being - thus, with "dinosaur" being Greek for "terrible lizard" - referring to the lizard portion of the name in Latin made a lot of sence, especially given how the name flows.
