<p>What motivates us to take on life's challenges? Is it the lure of money, fame, power? Or is it something else? In his new book, bestselling author Daniel Pink challenges traditional concepts of what drives us to act -- and shares some surprising scientific explanations for why we do what we do.<br><br>◆ The Science Behind Motivation<br><br>Pink says there's a big gap between what science knows and what business leaders know about how to motivate a workforce. Pink says most businesses operate today on the carrot-and-stick system of rewards and punishments. Employees are rewarded for good performance, and penalized for performing badly.<br><br>According to Pink, the carrot-and-stick approach usually works well in situations where workers are performing simple, routine tasks, like checking products on an assembly line or packing boxes. North Korea's parliament has sent a letter to its South Korean counterpart proposing direct talks between the two legislative bodies. ,abercrombie

North Korea's official KCNA news agency reported the overture Thursday,abercrombie france, saying the letter represented the "steadfast will" of the North Korean lawmakers "to defuse the acute situation on the Korean peninsula." It said they hope to "open up a new phase for peace and reunification."

South Korea's Yonhap news agency quoted a spokesman for the National Assembly in Seoul saying officials will review the letter when it arrives and "properly decide a reaction."

The letter is the latest in a series of peace overtures from North Korea following a period of high tension sparked by the North's artillery attack on a South Korean island in late November.

The two sides agreed Tuesday to hold working-level military talks beginning Feb. 8 to set an agenda for higher-level meetings,louboutin, perhaps between the two country's defense ministers.

South Korea says the success of the talks will depend on whether North Korea accepts responsibility for the Nov. 23 attack on Yeonpyeong Island and the sinking of the South Korean warship Cheonan in March.

North Korea has agreed to discuss the incidents but denies involvement in the Cheonan sinking. It says South Korea provoked the assault on Yeonpyeong by firing into disputed waters during a military exercise.

Cho Jang-hyun is the CEO of French-Asian fusion restaurant Kitchen Flo, which is praised among gourmets not only for the food but also for its intimate and cozy atmosphere and open kitchen. Yet he started out in a high-flying career with Samsung Electronics until one day he decided to leave all that behind and start a new career as a chef.

After graduating in mechanical engineering from Yonsei University, Cho worked in Samsung's overseas sales department for nearly 10 years, smartly suited and meeting clients in five-star hotels around the world.
