Akthyles (Azhazıc: Սեւյեստան Sevyestan), officially The Holy Union of Akthyles, is a mountainous coastal country on the continent of Illonia between the Vassermon Sea and the Kunnick Sea. It shares a border with Aliôn to the north, Galamorea to the south, and Haaku to the east.
It is one of the two major Wyktinist nations of Eshraval, and the only that is ruled by Wyktinism as the state religion and government body. A former state of the Wyktinist Empire, Akthyles is a theocratic triumvirate and one of the oldest and most historic nations in the world.

Etymology
The name Akthyles derives from the ancient Sevhetsyal city of Aktelys, which later became the Aktheilys province of the Wyktinist Empire. In the language of the Sevhetsyal, Aktelys meant 'shielded'. The reasons for this name are unknown, but some historians believe that it was due to the location of the Sevhetsyal capital of Echmiadzin, which was surrounded by mountains on three sides, with the sea on the fourth. Over time, the name was adopted by the Wyktinist Empire, and became the name of the province that surrounded part of the original Sevhetsyal lands, with its provincial capital of Echmiad.

Antiquity
Akthyles has been populated since prehistoric times. The country lies in the highlands around the legendary mountain Mark'are, upon which, as Wyktinist theology states, Talaris Zalynthule came to be possessed by Leitbur. Archaeologists continue to uncover evidence of a long-standing and powerful kingdom that rose and fell in the region, including bronze weapons, armor, and primitive machines, as well as ancient city ruins, including the site of the city of Romkala (sometimes transliterated as Rumqala), one of the oldest cities on Illonia. Trinkets of iron and bronze were commonly produced in Akthyles and traded to neighboring lands, where those metals were less abundant.
In the Bronze Age, several states flourished in the area of Greater Akthyles, including the Hekh Empire (seventeenth century BCE), the Kingdom of Taluzh (fourteenth century BCE), and Shapzhetka (tenth century BCE). Then, after an era of lesser wars and conflicts, the Kingdom of Taluzh reasserted itself as the Taluzh Empire, and established complete sovereignty over the region of Akthyles in 981 BCE, making it one of the longest lasting kingdoms to ever exist on Illonia. After the Taluzh Empire fell in 736 BCE, the Kingdom of Avenkar ruled for approximately fourty-five years, until the Charian invasion occured in 692 BCE.
The Sevhetsyal arrived on Illonia from Charia in 693 BCE, searching for more habitable lands to colonize. Their home near present day Anqar was rendered undesirable after years of war with the K'Osk'Attal. Arriving on Illonia, they immediately began conquering the local peoples. Upon arriving in present Akthyles, they swept into the Avenkar region and swiftly brought it down. After a six year conflict, the Sevhetsyal became the dominating force in the region, finally establishing the Kingdom of Urarta (Sevyenia) in 686 BCE under the Terjanzn Dynasty. After the region became moderately stable, the Sevhetsyal opened themselves to trade with the surrounding peoples. While the local Ghinni tribes and conquered peoples detested the presence of these Charian invaders, they could not ignore the fact that their culture, economy, and power was growing in their presence.
The Kingdom of Urarta reigned for approximately 1,120 years, finally ending with the Omedezn Dynasty in 441 CE when Talaris Zalynthule took the throne, creating the Wyktinist Empire.

Overview
Akthyles is structured as a Triumvirate. Elections occur only in the instance that a Triumvir cannot be chosen by the Triumvirate. Officials within the government of Akthyles are appointed by the Triumvirate. Governors are elected by the citizens of each province. If the Triumvirate disagrees with the outcome of an election, it can disallow the one elected to hold office and appoint a governor of their choosing. At any time, the Triumvirate can make void the oath of a governor and disallow him office, appointing one of their choosing. Governors do not hold any real power. They act specifically as the eyes and ears of the Triumvirate in each province, and do the bidding of the Triumvirate.
The Triumvirate
Each Triumvir deals with an aspect of government affairs (Military, Foreign Affairs, and Internal Affairs). The Triumvirate also serves as the Supreme Court of Akthyles. Each Triumvir appoints a Viceroy to become Triumvir in the event that said Triumvir can no longer rule (ex. Assassination). If the Viceroy is incapable, the Triumvirate can impeach him and then hold open election for a new Triumvir. This is the only instance of the people participating in election. Each Triumvir cannot act alone. Any decision made must have the approval of the other two Triumvirs. If one Triumvir decides to grant himself more power or to disobey the other two Triumvirs, said Triumvir can be impeached, in which case a Viceroy takes his place. Only males can be on the Triumvirate. It is a not requirement that they are Aphilian, and though it does not need to be stated, they must be Wyktinist.

The Triumvir of Defense serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Akthylean Military. He appoints a Secretary of Defense and a Head of Domestic Security.

Presides over all embassies of Akthyles in all nations.
Handles all incoming and outgoing messages from foreign nations to the government of Akthyles.
Internal Affairs
The Triumvir of Internal Affairs serves as head of economical affairs. He appoints a Head of Commerce, Head of Industry, Head of Revenue, Head of Labor, and a Head of Administration.
Deals with trade and commercial businesses.
Deals with industrial affairs.
Deals with the national treasury. Can appoint a treasurer with Triumvirate approval.

Geography
Overview
Akthyles is a small mountainous nation on the eastern Vassermon Sea. The coastal region of Akthyles is known as the Akthylean Shield, and it is the most heavily populated region. Given it's location, and given the large temperature changes, Akthyles has seen the need for two capitals, one for summer, known as Athspara (Ակսպարա), and one for winter, known as Echmiad (Էջմիադ), with Zhagad being in the mountains in the middle of the nation, and Capharna being on the coast, along the southern part of the shield.
Alpine forests cover most of Akthyles, and the beauty and serenity of its mountains have long been a topic for many Akthylean and Galamorean writers and artists. These mountains are known as the Serner Astvatsi (Սերներ Աստւացի), or Godly Mountains. Dominating the Astvatsi range is the massive Bardzranal Mark'are (Բարձրանալ Մարկ՛արէ), or Mount of the Prophet (literally Mount Prophet). The mountain has twin peaks, the Greater Mark'are towering over the Akthylean mountains at a staggering 22,507ft., making it one of the largest on Eshraval, and the Lesser Mark'are at 20,908ft. The Bardzranal Mark'are is mentioned in The Galamorean Chronicles several times, and legend holds that the mountain was the location where Talaris was first contacted by Leitbur and where the possession began.
From the capital of the province of Dravek, Uladan, one can look out at Bardzranal Mark'are during the winter solstice and watch the sun rise between the peaks of the Greater and Lesser Mark'are. This is marked as a holy day in Akthyles and Galamorea, as it signifies that the spirit of Talaris is always watching over them. For this reason, a temple to Talaris has been erected on the mountain, outside of Uladan. Wyktinists make a pilgrimage to this temple as a rite of passage.
In the south is Bardzranal Tsertaharel (Բարձրանալ Ցերտահարել), which is where the jointly Akthylean-Galamorean controlled territory and prison-mine, Tstertaharel Prison, is located.
