a) they are a transitional link between water and land; which are marshes, swamps, and bogs they are characterized by water type...salt water or fresh water, by vegetation, by hydrology, climate. some types are Estuarine, palustrine, emergent, shrub, and forested wetlands

b) they protect and improve water quality, make habitat for terestrial and aquatic life, and they cntrol flooding.
