Smart Growth vs. Sprawl

a. The people in the Valdosta-Lowndes county are deciding how their area should grow. The area has a theme park, Air Force, and state university so there is promise that it will continue to grow. They need to show people that they have planned well so that they can get industries that offer high paying jobs. The problem is that if they don't start planning the right way at this time, then sprawl will occur. Sprawl causes people to spend more on gas, gives them less time to spend as a family because they have poor transportation, and causes pollution. The smart growth plan offers more transportation choices and overall helps the environment.

b. I don't really know what to do for West Frankfort. There are a lot of open space to build housing except that would mean cutting down more trees and spending more money.

Scientist's Hail San Francisco's Significant Natural Resource Areas Management Plan

c. It does a good job of maximizing protection with limited resources while balancing the need to protect natural resources with other uses. It gives people who the opportunity for a rare recreational opportunity.

d. It cannot protect urban nature while simulateously accomodating all forms of the public recreation without restrictions. It might not go far enough to protect from off-leashed dogs and feral cats.

e. I'm not too sure that a better solution is possible because the only thing really to do would be is to have stricter leash rules. Even if it did work, which most people wouldn't listen to it too much, it then hurts the dogs because they can't be free to run around like they need to.
