Of course building on coastlines should be stopped.  They should have learned their history of hurricanes that wipped out entire towns, causes billions of dollars in damages, and ruin people's lives when they lose everything.  They know where hurricanes are likely to strike, why not just move 10 miles inland?  You will still be able to see the water when the next Mitch, Andrew, or Katrina hits, and suffer less than the people who don't have warning or are just to stupid to leave.  The people who build their multi-million dollar condos on perfectly good land where lakes, forests, wetlands, and grasslands once stood deserve to let their mansions be destroyed.  They might as well throw their money away or pay for the damages that have been done to the ecosystems.  This is the worst way to go through a disaster, hoping that FEMA will come to the rescue and the insurance companies will hear their tearjerking story.  I call it weather fraud, using natural disasters to eliminate mortages, house payments, and even getting compensation for houses not even damaged by storms.

So China needs fuel and energy in gigantic quantities to keep growing.  Not a big suprise when they have 2 billion people and have little if any natural resources that still remain.  They are in the exact situation that we are in and where in 30 years ago.  Not enough money for resources and too much population for steady energy consumption.  I just hope they have enough money to fork over for solar power, windmills, and other pricy fuel generators.  They are destroying their country's landscape at an amazing pace, depleting fisheries, covering the cities and towns with heavy air pollution, polution of rivers and streams, and wasting the soil on bumper crops of rice.  This optimism  will not last long, China will see this as a very bad move and have to spend years fixing the problems caused by the search for energy for the masses.
