Francesco, or Frankie as he was called by family, was born March 1, 1922 in Hoboken, N.J. He was born with a hole in his heart, a condition then known as "blue baby". At that time, there was nothing that could be done to correct the condition. He was raised by his Aunt Mary because his parents Mike and Angela worked in the mill. It was common in those times for grandparents or relatives to raise the children of working parents. At age 6, he died of his condition. That year, 1929, his youngest sister Josephine was born.
