Lemures Culture
Politics
casual senate, all aegyls allowed to come listen, only senators allowed to speak. very matter of fact, logical, does not concern itself with Ivalice's business. conservative and isolationist.
no military to speak of, more national guard that protects them from yahri beasts and sky pirates. slave trade has been stopped, though sky pirates still pillage for aegyl treasure they believe must be lying around somewhere.
Economy
barter, does not trade, not really an economy, more everyone working for the good of everyone else. s-s-socialist commune?
Education
most taught trades, combat and oral history. aegyl who are striving to become senators learn to read and write.
Hierarchy & Values
stoicism, control and poise are the biggest things in aegyl society still, despite their newly found ability to feel again. should a community member be viewed as emotionally weak or fragile, they will be looked dow upon and constantly patronized. aegyls who feel too much and cannot control their emotions generally leave lemures to live in ivalice- usually dalmasca or bhujerba.
family is extremely important with mothers and fathers seen as equal partners in everything (discipline and nurturing). it is a huge deal to go against parents' wishes. senators are seen as mothers and fathers of the entire aegyl race, deciding what is best for their children. sometimes even referred to as 'mother so and so' and 'father blah'.
virtues: contentment, modesty, integrity, restraint.
vices: selfishness, caprice, vanity and treachery.
Gender & Sexuality
men and women viewed as equals. no clearly defined gender roles. homosexuality okay. just don't ever ever ever date outside of aegyls, very shameful. sex as natural as eating or drinking- a necessity that can be pleasurable. shows in their dress, which is breezy and sparse and considered indecent by humes.
Stereotypes
emotionless, isolationist, indecent, untrustworthy. humes (especially archadians) think they were banished by occurians for wickedness and savagery.
Language(s)
Lemures, though Archadian is becoming increasingly popular due to the sheer volume of texts written in it.
Bhujerban Culture
Politics
ruled by marquis, a title while rotates between several noble families who have lived in the skycity for generations. he controls the police, leaving all other matters to a community council. marquis can override council's decisions, though.
small army but lots of tactical power- as bhujerba is viewed as primarily neutral, whoever has the city on their side increases their influence with the other countries of ivalice. bhujerba is still loyal to archadia above all others but its faith in emperor larsa is waning.
Economy
small, yet vibrant. lots of merchants pass through bhujerba, as do sky pirates which has led to a booming black market. very little agriculture to speak of but makes a fortune in magicite and ores coming from the rich mines scattered across the island. leading exporter of magicite.
Education
lacking. though archadian education standards are admired, bhujerba doesn't have the facilities to enforce them. too many children run the city streets on weekdays and parents would rather send them into a profession immediately than have them waste their time studying. typically a blue collar city, there are very few scholars. most bhujerbans with any aptitude for school and necessary funds are drawn to cultural capitals such as archades, rabanastre or tartessos.
Hierarchy & Values
as there are very few members of the nobility in bhujerba, prejudice does not come on the basis of class. nor really race or gender. bhujerbans are a generally accepting people, outwardly sweet and accommodating. they do, however, have a terrible reputation for being two-faced and passive-aggressive.
virtues: tactfulness, respectfulness, prudence, pacifism. do whatever you want to do in your own home. as long as your neigbors don't see it, they won't discuss it. everyone is happier that way- keeps things pleasant. blind-eye.
vices: nosiness, wantonness, brashness, arrogance.
Gender & Sexuality
again, as long as you don't make it anyone else's business, no one else cares what you do. flaunting any sort of sex relationship in public is viewed as disgraceful. sometimes even holding hands is enough to earn people dirty looks.
there are longstanding gender roles in bhujerba- men mine and craft, women sew and tend to the house. though viewed as distinctly separate, neither sex, bhujerbans claim, is superior to the other. men do, however, receive more freedom than womem a marquise has never ruled over the city.
Stereotypes
amoral, passive-aggressive, ignorant (as in they ignore anything and everything unpleasant), politically neutral pacifists.
Languages
bhujerban archadian, archadian, dalmascan.
