How to level up
1. You'll need just some patience to be a decent lumberjack. Lumberjacks, like most harvesting jobs, isn't very hard at all. Simply go around cutting down trees. So as soon as you feel ready, starting is perfectly straight forward. One thing that may help is to have your cutting axe as your permenantly equipped weapon. This means that you can chop as you wander around looking for things to fight.
2. Sawing the collected wood is not a good option, since it only yields 1 xp. Moreover, raw wood is a much commoner resource than planks, so you'll get more use/kamas from the former.
3. If you're a F2P (Free to Play), your best spot is around the central east part of Astrub Forest where tons of little Ash trees are to be found, though the place is often crowded. P2P (pay to play) players will prefer the Gobbal Corner in Amakna, a central place for Ash cutting (see Ash for locations and numbers).
4. Cut loads of Ash trees until you're level 10. They give 10 exp per tree so around one hour to one hour and a half of cutting (depending on how many people are cutting also) you should reach lvl 10. Once level 10, you can start cutting chestnut trees (see the Chestnut page for best locations). They take the same time to cut and give more exp (15 exp per tree). Upon reaching level 20, you may consider going for Walnut trees, but you can also stick to Chestnut trees, which are quicker to cut and come in greater numbers. It all depends on where you cut and what you intend to do with the collected wood. The same strategy applies as you level up - higher-level trees take longer to cut and come in lower quantities around Dofus.
5. Make sure that you know how to fight some while chopping, because you can be randomly attacked by the tree!
