Joke's on you, this is actually a completely separate screencap from Hikaru.

Kaoru is one of the hosts from Ouran High School Host Club, though technically, he and Hikaru count as one host. He's pulled straight from post-anime canon and the missing years have been attacked by creative license. The mun can't stand the Ouran manga art style for some retarded reason, so the manga canon is lost on her.

Personality

At one point, Kaoru was just as mean as his brother, so snark and cruelty aren't above him. But recently, he has become hundreds of times more mature than Hikaru. He is aware of his and his brother's massive flaws in character and makes a conscious effort to fix them. What he wants most is for his brother to grow up and be able to make up for the retarded mental growth due to all the years of isolation. At the same time, he's still indefinitely attached to Hikaru and can't let him go due to overwhelming fear.

Naturally an actor, he is extremely flexible on stage. Life is his stage and no one is allowed to see the real Kaoru until they get close enough (which takes years to do). His niche role that everyone is use to is the terrifyingly passive/fragile lover to Hikaru, but people have forgotten if it's merely an act or if it is real. Kaoru realizes this, and intends on maintaining the confusion for as long as he can, since it acts as a good distraction (as in, people spend time trying to decipher that rather than trying to force themselves into the twins' lives all at once). He doesn't like to think of their relationship as co-dependent, but he relies on Hikaru just as much as, if not more than Hikaru needs him. To explain, he often hid behind his elder brother prior to joining the Host Club and suffers from severe feelings of vulnerability at the mere thought of the two drifting apart.

Kaoru still possesses elements of self centeredness due to 14 years of thinking everyone was an idiot (which is really kinda hard to shake). He has a deep love for trickery and chaos, but unlike his brother, knows exactly when to stop and when to run with a joke. He actually has something called tact and is more or less capable of picking up on others' emotions. He has a bit of a natural inclination to help others that pokes through every once in a while and is more deliberately considerate than his brother. But he's a follower under Hikaru, which stinks, because all that perceptiveness tends to go to waste. But that sort of thing doesn't seem to bother him all that much. In fact, the kid seems to be frighteningly calm and easy going most of the time. Like Hikaru, he tends to turn things into a giant game when the days are slow as he thrives on competition. He's passionate about things that interest him, but is completely apathetic about them once they become boring (which is almost ADD!quickly). It makes him look like a total flake at times, but hey. He also doesn't give a rat's ass about what people think of him.

He's forgiving to a fault sometimes as he sometimes expects a little too much from people, usually due to overestimating their abilities (as opposed to just being demanding).

He is also a total linguiphile.

History

Kaoru is the younger of the Hitachiin twins, born into a disgustingly rich family. They were unnaturally alike in appearance, and as they grew up attached at the hip, they developed similar mannerisms. By the time they were 8, it was like looking at one child standing in front of a mirror. It frustrated both of them and they decided that what they wanted was someone who could tell them apart (fie on having all the money and toys in the world and all that stuff).

They selected a maid that they liked and convinced her to try and guess which of the twins was Hikaru (in return, she could have a piece of paper with combination to the family's safe). She couldn't, so she stole the combination and broke into the safe while they were asleep. The twins caught her, and were devastated. She told them it was impossible, and that she doubted anyone in the world could tell them apart.

She disappeared, and the twins grew up rather embittered. They were always in the company of other children but ignored them. Kids always invited the twins to play, but the twins would ask them to differentiate between the two. The children would inevitably fail, much to Kaoru's dismay, and leave them be.

They had great potential for popularity in middle school, often receiving confessions from love from girls and invitations to parties from the boys (whether it was just because of their wealth or not is uncertain). Kaoru didn't care for it, Hikaru resented them, and they put up a shield around themselves. Soon enough, they were completely separated from the world, defined by Kaoru as "the world outside of us". As if he didn't notice the wall, Tamaki Suoh invited them into the Host Club, hoping to open the twins up and drag them out of their shell. They responded the same way as they always do, asking Tamaki, "Let's play the Which-One-Is-Hikaru Game!" Obviously, Tamaki failed, so he convinced the two using the same self contradicting logic that the twins lived by. Thus, the Hitachiin twins joined the prestigous Ouran Host Club.

In the club, the twins both opened up and became much, much friendlier. Haruhi joined the club in its second year, and she became the first real intrusion in the "world of us" as she was able to tell them apart without much thought. It sent Kaoru reeling for a bit, but he got over that once he realized that it would be beneficial for his dear brother. He tried to push the two together, but after a while, realized that if he kept it up, Hikaru would leave him behind.

The idea became wildly terrifying for Kaoru and he didn't know how to handle it. Since he is both self centered and self sacrificial for his brother, he was conflicted and was devoured by the idea. It only accelerated the gap between them, which further unsettled Kaoru. It was remedied during a Halloween Event for the most part and he stopped being all twitchy and paranoid.

Hikaru, after graduating, grew bored with the life in a rich kid school and wanted to study abroad. Kaoru naturally followed suit and thus, Desai.

Current Status

Still working on humiliating Zidane via modeling scam.

Kaoru also plays the part of one of Cinderella's step sisters in the School's production of Into The Woods.

Interactions

Hikaru: Elder twin. Grew up with him. Loves him with all of his heart and then some. Cling to eachother in their own ways.
Trish: Not entirely sure what the twins' relationship with Trish is. It's very much love-hate for the most part. They like the fact that she's not a little piss ant and can appreciate their genius. They don't like the fact that she can brush them off as easily as she does. But they're little princes, so that's probably to be expected from them. She once told them about her origins and Kaoru finds himself worrying about her wellbeing a lot of the time and almost feels bad for her situation. He also understands that she has too much pride for him to do anything about it and he just goes along with it.
Lady: Prudish little thing. The twins are unnerved by the fact that anyone can be as unsociable as she is (and that's saying a lot coming from them). They once tried to reform her, but that didn't blow over so well and the lack of progress made them bored. Kaoru danced with her once, and thinks that if she just mellowed the crap out, she would not suck at trying to fit into society so much.
Vergil: Student Body President of Choice. Kaoru doesn't really have an opinion on him, just that he's got OCD.
Sae: She seems to be very good at (unintentionally?) exploiting Kaoru's deeper fears and he can't handle her very well. As such, he really doesn't like her. He wants to tolerate her, but can't bring himself to do so.
