Desai's Rikku

This Rikku comes to Desai Pre Final Fantasy X. This girl is a perky and excessively energetic thief. My Rikku stays fairly true to her original canon premises. She is a diehard optimist, one of those annoyingly positive people who believes there is good in anyone if you search deep enough. She is incredibly outgoing, despite being the constant target for prejudice due to her race.

Wikipedia has a fairly detailed page on the Al Bhed, which helps describe both her culture and the discrimination her people face in Spira.

As is common among the Al Bhed, Rikku has a keen knack for machines, which Spirains often refer to as machina. This Rikku came to Desai with the intent of acquiring advanced weaponry from different worlds in preparation for operation Mi'hen.

While the girl still intends to fulfill this mission, complications arose when she ran into Yuna. Rikku was delighted at this Yevonites friendly acceptance and only all the more so when the two realized they were in fact cousins. Yet in their happy reunion, Rikku was to learn that Yuna was an apprentice Summoner intent on sacrificing herself to bring a decade of peace to Spira.

Hating sacrifice and, true to her rose tinted glasses Rikku was certain there were alternate methods to defeating Sin. The Al Bhed in fact, were openly against the final Summoning and methodically kidnapped Summoners to prevent their well intended suicide. Thusly, Rikku was not about to let her cousin go marching straight to her death. Yet she knew talking Yuna out of her good intentions would not be an easy task for someone whose heart was so set on helping others. So she asked to be Yuna's guardian, as unorthodox though that was with her being Al Bhed.

And so Rikku finds herself in the same position as in Final Fantasy X. Different worlds; same people.

Basic Character Information

Name: Rikku Origin: Final Fantasy X Race: Al Bhed Height: 153cm/ 5'2 Age: 15 (note that in the school registry, she's listed as 17) Appearance: A notable aspect about Rikku is she has the traditional Al Bhed eyes, which are green in the iris, with a spiral instead of a circular pupil.

Fighting Style

Aside from being a thief, Rikku is fairly skilled in battle. Though as a mechanic she's used to using machina as an aid, which presents as a problem when guarding Yuna given Yevonite beliefs. She uses an unusual weapon, in Desai the initial one called Survivor. This is an armlet like device with twin blades at either side of the hand which function in attack much like claws. On the opposite, upper arm she wears a targe which functions as a small shield.

Her style is to strike fast and often, thus she relies on speed more than strength.

She's also a little too fond of grenades.

Upbringing

Rikku's father, Cid, is the chief of the Al Bhed tribe. He was responsible for bringing the tribe together after an attack from Yevonites scattered them. He also helped in establishing Home, a machina based civilization. Home is hidden deep in the Sanubia Desert to avoid persecution.

Rikku worked with her father, brother and crew salvaging ancient machina. And so the girl was raised a nomad, traveling by boat or skyship. They traveled so much, her place of birth is unknown. This also allowed her to master the Yevonite language, as the Al Bhed speak a tongue of their own.

Now for a random fact

Rikku suffers from astraphobia, which is the fear of thunder and lightning.
