This is the official character design for Maya, as drawn by Kazuma Kaneko (who rocks some serious socks). Yes, she's got hearts on her boobies. And we're all okay with that, so shut up.

Overview

Maya Amano is a main party member in the two-part Atlus video game Persona 2: Innocent Sin and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment. She is based more on her Eternal Punishment self, but is neither beginning-of-game Maya nor end-cutscene Maya. She's somewhere in between, though Sumaru is restored to normal (for the most part). She's got a lot of Innocent Sin things thrown in just because Eternal Punishment!Maya is a silent hero and threfore lacks personality.

This character is played by Misao. Maya's IC journal is superpositively.

Personality

Maya Amano is a cheery new student at Desai University. Perhaps too cheery, or else she's had crappy luck and met all the really crabby people on campus first. Either way, she's a total optimist and is at Desai to better herself as a writer and work on her English skills. She can often be found people-watching or striking up conversations with unwilling participants.

She's also a night owl and a total slob. Her room is a mess, and she's always so consumed with work (so goes her joke, "work is my lover!" as she is too busy working to do anything else). While her room is a disaster, her friend and roommate back home sent her off with nice clothes and good makeup tips. She manages to make herself presentable each morning!

Despite being a bundle of happiness, she is aware of her surroundings and keen on what other people think. She lives in fear of being nothing but an annoyance and doesn't want to drag people down. She's got her own family issues, as well as issues with a certain Deja Vu Boy, parallel realities and all sorts of crazy stuff like that. She puts on a smile in spite of it and says her mantra, "Let's positive thinking!!" with a determined fist pump!

Associations

She hasn't met many people at Desai University just yet, save for some people in passing and her suitemates.

--Dante and Vergil... well, let's just say she got off on the wrong foot with them.
--Rufus Shinra she randomly met him one day at the commons and has a big schoolgirl crush on him, thinking that he's a very charming and polite man.

Canon History

Holy smacks this section contains spoilers for Persona 2: Eternal Punishment!!

Maya's canon history is uber complex and uber spoilerific, so we're just going to go with Eternal Punishment since it's been translated and released in English. In a nutshell, she played the Persona game when she was a kid and then, later on while investigating the Joker murders at Seven Sisters High School, she was taken into Philemon's realm and given the power of Persona. From there, she allied herself with Ulala Serizawa, Katsuya Suou, Baofu, Nate Nanjo, Ellen Kirishima and Tatsuya Suou.

Together, they investigated the Joker murders to find that the New World Order was going to destroy the world, save for Sumaru City. So they trounced the N.W.O. dudes, had a lot of character development and deja vu (Innocent Sin events) along the way and then laid the smackdown on the N.W.O. heads.

And then they fought an Eldritch Horror. I shit you not, they all fought Nyarlathotep.

Weapons

Maya acquired two pretty pink pistols from the Joker while at Seven Sister's High School. Mun is speculating that they're probably some kind of custom M9 knock-off, and pink. Oh so very pink. Maya is actually a pretty good shot with them, too!

Her main weapon, though, is her Persona. It is a type of magic that comes from the soul, where the Persona User is able to summon a different mask or facet of their personality, their "Persona." Their Persona manifests itself as some sort of mythological creature or some sort of deity and will cast magic spells or use powerful attacks on an enemy.

When summoning a Persona, a column of bright blue light will form around the character and rise up. The Persona will then rise from within the character, cast its spell, then fade away. Pretty cool, huh?

MOON / Maia Custom
Voids Darkness, Holy, Mind/Nerve. Affinity: None. Is a mutation from MOON Maia, useable only by Maya. Maia Custom's spells include: Hama, Invitation to Sleep, Scratch, Maha Aques, Medirama, Multi Dimension and Recarm.
