[edit] The Crux of Ego

Name: Born of Betrayal
Caste: Dusk
Concept: Spiteful General
Motivation: To cleanse Creation of all mortal life
Intimacies: Direct Subordinates
Anima: A hideous, rotting giant with four arms, shadowy skin, and eyes like shining rubies; manifest in stark mockery of the Unconquered Sun. One hand holds a gore-stained axe, dripping fresh blood. A second hand holds a severed head that blinks and screams incomprehensibly, perhaps fearful, mad, or both. Yet another hand holds an orb of pure darkness, an avatar of the Void. The final hand contains nothing. It constantly flails about, twitching each of its fingers at at varying rates.

[edit] Merits and Flaws

  • Unusual Appearance (1F): Betrayal was born with eyes the color of fresh blood. They have no white, no irises; just pupils floating in twin seas of crimson.
  • Disturbing (2F): Born unknowingly an outcast of all normal society, Betrayal never quite fit in. No, 'not fitting in' leads one to believe his problem was of social nature. Betrayal drove most individuals away from him before he could even utter a word. Demonic blood runs through his veins, and this taint produces dissonances in the very fabric of reality around him (even more so than his Abyssal nature). Betrayal's very presence causes most to feel a slight pang of discomfort, be it a chill down the spine, a knot in the throat, or a weight in the gut. This nature, combined with his shattered sanity, is what truly drives individuals from him. That, and he's lost his marbles. Bouncing off the wall. Few cards short of a full deck. This guy is batshit crazy.
  • Rival [Walking on Laughter](1F): Betrayal's swift rise through the ranks of the Legion Sanguinary and the Lion's apparent interest and favor in him has put Walking on Laughter on edge. While he doesn't yet know whether he should strike up a pact with Betrayal or stifle his rapid rise to power before he becomes a threat, Walking on Laughter is wary of the young Deathknight's actions.
  • Derangement [Sadism](3F): Betrayal has always had a heart of malice, whether he knew it or not. His half-demon blood warped him into the monster he was long before he took the Last Breath, and now his madness continues to grow from the embrace of Oblivion. The Lion finds Betrayal's erratic behavior to be useful...sometimes. At other times it's an inconvenience, one of which the Lion is beginning to find slightly irritating.
  • Known Anathema (2F): The Wyld Hunt had gotten wind of Betrayal through passing tales of the wholesale slaughter of nearly one thousand Paragon and Realm troops and their Dragon-blooded leaders at a mining camp by, from all accounts, an army of the dead led by one of Forsaken. And then they heard about massacre of two of Gem's finest mercenary companies by yet another army of the dead, again led by a Forsaken. And then they heard about the murder of an entire dragon of Realm troops outside of the Lap. Who would've guessed that the culprit was a Forsaken, leading an army of the dead. This time, they were able to get slightly more information. Apparently, one now-insane conscript had somehow heard the mad ramblings of the Anathema and managed to pick up what was believed to be his name. Of course, it was Betrayal. While the Hunt is still completely unaware of Betrayal's current whereabouts, they have become much more attentive to happenings of the South, particularly in the Paragon - Lap region.

Blood and Steel Rebuke(3bp): First Melee Excellency, Vengeful Riposte, Death-Deflecting Technique (0+m, 1+wp)
Necrotic Essence surges around Betrayal as he enters an implacable stance. Enemy blows are met with the impenetrable resistance of Betrayal's mailed gauntlets or Grimcleaver, the parries charged and enhanced with the limitless power of Oblivion. Each blocked attack sinks into the Void enveloping Betrayal's gauntlets and axe, much to the enemy's surprise and dismay. This creates an opening through which Betrayal returns the blow with one of his own, ferociously castigating the enemy for such a foolish attempt of an attack.

  • Joyous Corpse-Shell

A terrifyingly gruesome display of Abyssal craftsmanship, this suit of Soulsteel Breastplate is by far Betrayal's favorite possession. One of the Lion's gifts to him in the baroque ceremony culminating his ascension to Death-Knighthood, this armor is an ornate construction of bone and moliated soul. A physical twist of elegant simplicity, Joyous Corpse-Shell is merely a shell of Soulsteel around which bones are arranged, forming the upper torso of a human body. It fits the natural form of a human with unmatched precision, all except for a small area in the center of the chest. Here, a small ovular opening has been cut and removed from the bone, and in its place the Soulsteel has risen outwards in the same shape. This very spot is what makes the armor most fearsome, as it is here the face of the moliated soul is permanently bound, eternally screaming in silent agony. This pitiful soul is none other than the Lieutenant who brought about Betrayal's Exaltation with his treachery. For this most thoughtful of all gifts, Betrayal is eternally thankful and loyal to his liege. He now may take great pleasure in the fact that even in death, the man who betrayed him is still forever bound to the same bones he was in life.
