Backstory

The woman now called Sorceress of the Howling Wind was once known by a much gentler name, though few now remember it. She was born in a small village north of Great Forks, to a family already consisting of her Mother, Father, four older brothers and two older sisters. As she grew the girl was happy as could be, she played willingly with her siblings and with the children. And in time she even fell in love. It was the summer, a young man came to the village accompanying one of the many caravans that came for the summer festival and market.

The girl and the boy fell deeply in love and eventually even got married. Around the time that the girl started discussing starting a family the young man said he wanted to leave to find his fortune in Great Forks. He promised that one day he would return for the girl and that they would live in happiness with all the children she could ever want. A year went by but the boy had yet to come back, though the girl still waited faithfully for him. Then two years passed, then three, and with each change of the seasons the girl despaired at ever seeing her love again. She prayed to the gods to give her an answer as to why he had not returned, but there was no answer.

Many years later the girl left her town and traveled to Great Forks to find her love. Within a few days of her arrival in Great Forks she found the man she had once loved, but he had married another woman and sired two children with his new wife. That night the girl, filled with murderous rage at being betrayed, slaughtered the family. She killed the children first letting the parents watch in helpless horror as their children died before them. Then the girl took the mother of the children and killed her as well, leaving her former lover for last. Rage enabled her former lover to break free of the ropes she had bound him with, and he attacked the girl who had killed his family. The girl stabbed her former love through the heart, leaving him lying dead on the floor, but he had managed to stab her as well, and now her life blood was slowly spilling out to join the blood of her victims.

As she took her last breath a voice came to her, offering her a way out, and a way to continue living with a greater purpose. To make up for the time spent waiting for a love that had long since vanished. Not wanting to die the girl accepted gladly. She was spirited away to the Underworld where the Lover Clad in the Raiment of Tears bestowed the Black Exaltation upon the girl, and named her Sorceress of the Howling Wind.
