[edit] Organization
The navy is organized into several operational fleets, which are as follows:

[edit] Marine Corps
The South African Marine Corps (SAMC) is a naval amphibious force responsible for providing power projection from the sea utilizing the mobility of the navy to rapidly deliver combined-arms task forces. The SAMC, numbering seven divisions (five active, two reserve), has the unique ability to rapidly deploy a combined-arms task force to almost anywhere in the world within days. The basic structure for all deployed units is a marine air-ground task force that integrates a ground combat component, an air component, and a logistics combat component under a common command element. Marines operate under principles of self-sufficiency, stealth, speed, and close teamwork, and are internationally considered to be among the best in the world. The SAMC's ability to rapidly respond to regional crises has made it, and continues to make it, an important body in the implementation and execution of South African foreign policy.
