The '''Kama Republic''' was a secessionist state that attempted to break away from Russia during the [[Holy Russian Revolution]]. The majority of the population of the republic was made up of various Turkic groups, such as the Tartars and Bashkirs, although non-Turkic groups, such as the Udmurts, were also part of the breakaway state. When the Orthodox Church rebelled against the Empire of Russia, the leaders of Bashkortostan, Tartarstan, Mari El, Chuvashia, Mordovia, and Udmurtia grouped together, under the common banner of establishing an independent republic for the Muslim people of the area. They were able to create a sizable army, and were able to hold off an Imperial offensive from January 18th-February 25th. After the offensive, Imperial forces were forced to move to counter the Orthodox revolutionaries. From this point to the beginning of the Orthodox offensive against the republic, it was able to come up with many of the symbols of a state, including a flag, a national anthem, a coat of arms, a motto, and was able to create key government organizations. The nation was even able to gain the recognition of 3 nations (Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan).

However, the republic was unable to withstand the offensive made by the Orthodox revolutionaries that began on April 16th. Although the Kaman forces were able to inflict heavy casualties on the Orthodox troops, the invasion was an assault from all sides and with far superior numbers. Slowly, the republican forces retreated to the cities. Once there, there was bitter urban combat in each city, although the fiercest fighting of all was in the capital of Ufa. The battle that ensued was the bloodiest of the Revolution, where 10,000 Kaman regulars and 25,000 partisans attempted to hold the city against 130,000 Orthodox regulars. The battle (which began on April 19th) ended a month later, with 30,000 Kaman casualties (20,000 dead, 9,700 wounded, 300 missing) and 90,000 orthodox casualties (40,000 dead, 47,000 wounded, 3,000 missing). Even though Kaman forces had a near suicidal determination to avoid being subjugated by the Orthodox church (which led to them being the only army in the Revolution that suffered more dead than wounded casualties, and to the highest percentage of casualties of the three armies), they were unable to withstand the sheer force of numbers that the Orthodox revolutionaries were able to send at them.
