You arrive at the malt shop

From Create Your Own Story

You park in the lot at the malt shop and walk around the car to help Chelsea out of the car. She takes your hand as you walk into the restaurant.

Once inside, you look around and spot Brian and Jessica at a table. They are making moon eyes at each other and don't see the two of you until you step up to the table.

"Oh, hi guys!" Chelsea says in an upbeat voice.

Jessica glances at your hands, still entwined, and grins up at her cousin. "It looks like things are going well already, Chelsea." Chelsea just smiles. Brian and his girl are on one side of the table. You and Chelsea go to the other side, and you pull her chair out for her. You are really getting into the chivalry and manners, since it seems to make Chelsea happy. You both sit.

The cute redheaded waitress comes, hands you and Chelsea menus. She's very upbeat when she says, "I'll be back in a couple minutes to take your order."

You already know what you want, since you almost always order the same thing. California cheeseburger, onion rings, and a hot fudge shake. Chelsea and Jessica discuss the merits of sour cream on a burger, and decide to split a strawberry malt. Brian always has trouble deciding what he wants and he takes several minutes to pick.

The waitress returns and you make your order. Chelsea gets a California burger and Jessica gets a burger with sour cream and onions on it, along with the shake they're splitting. Brian is still wavering between three different things until Jessica says, "Get him the double bacon cheeseburger with fries and a banana-strawberry shake." Brian looks at her for a second, then says, "That sounds good. Thanks." You all laugh, including the waitress.

"So what do you want to do after we eat? A movie? The latest zombie movie opened last weekend," Brian says. Chelsea and you both nod enthusiastically at the same time.

"Well, okay, if everyone else wants to go. If I get grossed out, Brian, I'll hide my face in your arms, okay?"

Brian grins at her, saying, "Of course, darling."

You really like that Chelsea seems to have similar taste in movies to you. This could turn out the be one of the all-time best blind dates ever.

A discussion about school comes up and you find out the Chelsea is a good student and on the student council as well. You know that Brian is only so-so in school, but does well at sports, especially basketball. Jessica wants to go to cooking school to become a chef after school, and is already taking some vocational classes toward that end. You tell Chelsea that you're a pretty good student, which you are, and that you'd like to go to college. She smiles as you talk.

The food comes. Everyone digs in. Silence descends on the table for ten minutes.

"We must have been hungry," you say. Everyone giggles through mouths full of food.
