Michelle has a wierd reaction to your offer. Her face falls and she looks disappointed.
She asks you if you're sure and you say that you are.
"Katya" turns to you and says, in perfect English, "Sir, I'm sorry we had to do this, but this was an official "university ethics" inquiry. You signed a statement of ethical responsibility when we hired you. I'm afraid you've already broken the ethical trust. An investigation will be forthcoming, and I'm afraid there may be consequences for you, professionally."
At that, the girls walk out of the office.
You find out later that "Katya" is actually Katherine Kowalsky, an independent ethics officer hired by the university for an internal investigation into the behavior of professors. It turns out you're one of only two professors who failed the test.
