The bookshelf feels too out of place to ignore. It's at the end of the basement, and no other rooms or doors are in sight. Most of the books are standard religious fare, but the second shelf catches your eye.
You thumb through a couple of the books. They all deal with Angels and Demons, Succubi and Incubi, Seraphim and Cherubim. The one in the middle of the shelf is the most interesting. Nigromancy: Summoning and Controlling Demons. It doesn't seem to be a warning against such practices, as you would expect to find in a church. This one goes into some detail about the practice. There are some passages about demons acting only by the will of God, testing the faith of the believers. Other chapters deal with the limits of demonic power. Existing in bodies of air, the demonic creatures can possess the body, but cannot control the will. They can deceive, mislead, and lure the weak to do their bidding. Hah, is that right? Knowledge of events to come, are almost certainly limited to what they themselves are planning to do... This book is good comedy.
You put the book back, and slide the bookshelf to the side. Behind it, you find only solid wall. There's no secret passage as you were expecting.
