The nurse looks at you oddly, then shakes her head. The two men remove Nina from the ambulance and you and the nurse follow them inside.
"We're going to the morgue," the nurse says. "Marla is a very good mortician. She'll give your friend a good place to rest temporarily and she'll ask you a few questions. She'll let the family know."
Watching the nurse's wiggly walk has your stick erect and ready for action in a matter of minutes. The nurse and the attendants leave once the body is delivered. Marla the mortician has Nina laid out in a drawer. You wonder how many of the other drawers hold the corpses of lovely but dead women.
Marla, however, is very much alive. Her auburn hair is done up in a loose bun and small glasses perch on her nose. You wonder what she has on under her white lab coat.
"Sit down at this table," Marla says. "I just need you to fill out any vital statistics you might know and the names, addresses and phone numbers of next of kin so I can deliver the sad news."
You sit down, but you can't help keeping one eye on Nina's drawer.
"Do you need something to distract you from your friend's... condition?" Marla asks.
