I grin as I think about the steamy situation I'm about to get myself into.
"Badass spy ruining a powerful man's reputation? I'm in."
Surprisingly, Darren doesn't appreciate my enthusiasm.
"Don't celebrate just yet. You haven't even started. You need to stay focused. Don't let your feelings get the better of you. In fact, don't let your feelings out at all."
"Don't worry, I got this. Is it so bad if I enjoy the job a little?"
"Just focus on the job and don't ruin my plan, okay?"
Darren steps in front of me and holds out his hand. Hesitantly, I take it, sealing the deal.
"You made a good call, Sarah. This is your chance to fix your mistakes and make things right. And now that you're working for me, trust that I'll take care of you better than that sad excuse for a boyfriend."
"Ex-boyfriend"
Darren ignores me. He turns to open a drawer and hands me a new phone.
"I'll be in touch. Wait for further instructions. Good night. Ronan will walk you out."
Darren leaves the room and closes the door behind him. I suddenly feel cold.
What did I get myself into? I feel like I've just stepped out of a dream... Maybe I should call him tomorrow and tell him I've changed my mind.
I'm pulled from my thoughts by Brie, who suddenly shows up. "Hey, where were you? I was looking for you."
