You had no shortage of willing victims during your glory days, but as the world was now, such people were a rarity. This girl, however, seemed like an exception; she was so painfully afraid of death that she'd do anything to be released from it. You didn't think a lot of subtlety was required. Though, obviously it wouldn't do any good to tell her everything either. You waited for the nightfall, assumed your new form, and took off.

Emily was lying on her bed, coughing. As she had for every day the past month.

She was going to die, and she knew it. It was something in her family: her grandfather's first two children had succumbed to the same illness, and apparently it went back more generations than anyone knew of. Bitterly, she thought about all the other girls who got to live perfectly normal, happy lives. They'd milk cows, get married, mother children and die... far, far later than she would. She was envious of her sister, too, but couldn't really think of anything bad about her: she was the sweetest thing ever, spending so much time with her despite her inability to move from the bed.

She sighed and slumped on her bed. The sun had only just fallen and there'd still be an hour or two before she usually went to sleep, but she was bored to tears. Her family owned exactly two books, and she had read them dozens of times already. She tried closing her eyes, wishing she'd just fall asleep fast.

Suddenly, she heard someone tapping on her window. Clumsily rising to a sitting position and opening her eyes, she saw a beautiful, tall woman. With a curvy black hair, skin even paler than hers, she looked like a true aristocrat. Why would someone like her be here, in the middle of nowhere?

The woman tapped the glass again, obviously wishing to speak with her. Shakily rising on her feet, she moved towards the window and opened it.

As she got a better look at the woman's face, she noticed her red, piercing eyes. Surprised by that, she stammered a bit. "E-e-excuse me, how may I help you?"

The woman smiled faintly, looking Emily in the eyes. "May I come in, first? It's awfully unpleasant to just stand outside." Her voice was strangely authoritative, and the girl involuntarily took a step backwards to let her in.

"I'm sorry, um... go ahead..." she said, flustered. The woman only smiled some more and effortlessly climbed in through the open window.

"Thank you, dear. May I hear your name?" she asked in a refined manner, still staring at Emily with the red eyes of hers.

"I'm Emily Herbard, but um..." she started, not sure what she was going to ask. Somehow, she had a hard time concentrating right now. "May I please sit? I'm rather frail, and I don't think I can stand much longer."

"Go ahead, Emily." she responded. Feeling grateful, Emily sat on her bed, still somehow unable to tear her eyes off the woman's. She followed, sitting on the bed right next to her.

"Can I help you...?" she asked, confused. The woman was silent for a second, simply smiling at her. Her gaze seemed to penetrate her somehow, and she felt herself to be more and more relaxed around her, as if she was a good friend of hers.

"Tell me about yourself, Emily." the woman suddenly asked, breaking the silence.

Emily did. She told her of her illness, of her family, of the life around her farm. She told her of a crush she had on a boy when she was twelve, and about the books she had read or wanted to read. The woman's smile was encouraging and she seemed to be listening to her intently, and Emily felt truly grateful to have someone who'd listen to her like this. She didn't mind when the woman started brushing her hair, or when she moved behind her and started embracing her, kissing her neck. It was only natural.

After some time had passed, she gently pushed Emily down on her bed and placed her finger gently on her lips. The girl started feeling tired and submissive all of a sudden, forgetting everything she was going to say. Staring at the woman's eyes, she lied there in trance.

---

You kissed her lips as she looked at you in a peaceful trance. Sliding your right arm under her armpit and your left hand behind her head to support it, you gave her neck a small lick before biting down.

She left out a small, pained gasp and breathed heavily as you drank her lifeblood. After a while, she started to enjoy it and her breathing stabilized, her chest raising and lowering slowly under you. Her heart pumped more and more blood for you to drink, but after a minute you pulled back, leaving her to lie there with a blissful expression on her face. Kissing her goodbye with your bloody lips, you evacuated yourself, planning to return the next night.

---

Emily returned to her senses a minute later, wiping the blood from her neck and her lips on the underside of her blanket. It had felt better than anything she had ever experienced in her whole life, and she hoped from the bottom of her heart that the woman would return again. It felt wrong, and she knew it was. But she didn't care; she had stopped caring about that when she realized how close her death was. She felt angry at the lack of justice in the world, wishing to rebel against it.

She snapped out of it when she heard someone knocking on her door. "Y, yes?"

Her little sister entered. A young, childish girl with a red hair like hers tied cutely to pigtails, it was impossible not to feel better upon seeing her. "Are you feeling alright, sister?" she asked Emily.

"I'm okay, July. I'm a bit thirsty, could you bring me some water?"

"A-alright!" she said, going to fetch her some. Maybe it wasn't really that bad after all.
