"Step number one," You say, "is that you can't carry all this and swim." Specifically, you point to the crowbar and planks "We put the equipment on the boat, I keep my hand on it, and we swim across at the same time. We should arrive with everything intact!
"Fine." Jo says, and throws her bag in the raft, taking out the crowbar and planks. "So, by your readings, are we upstream enough?"
You look to the river. It isn't slow, but now you are far up enough maybe there won't be much issue swimming. "About as good as it gets." You begin to strip and stuff your clothes into your bag, when you notice Jo staring at you. You almost laugh and begin to flex, but decide not to make a scene of it.
"Nothing." She says.
"Are you gonna swim like that?"
"Not like I have a swimsuit, anyhow."
Of course not. "It would be easier." You begin to say, but she starts to paddle out into the river.
She yells back, "Just get the equipment across."
You give a soft groan, and grab the end of the raft as you drag it into the water. Even a slow river like this with one hand would be a hassle. You think you might want to tie the raft to you, but then it may easily become uneven. You just kick your legs harder.
Not a fourth of the way there, you see Jo struggling. Her head disappears beneath the water, and you panic, grabbing her bag off the raft and diving for her. You grasp her, kicking and struggling with the bag wrapped around one shoulder, trying to keep her up with the other arm. The weight is not near as awful as the awkwardness of the travel. You kick and strain all the way to the island, throwing the bag down and setting her down. She doesn't appear to breath, and you snap down the front of her hoodie's zipper and begin CPR on her chest. It is panicking reflex for what seems like eternity, but she coughs up water.
You sit back, breathing hard. "You are okay."
Jo looks down to herself, her hands feeling her exposed collar and bra. "What th-" she starts.
"CPR."
"CPR? Like," she starts again, bringing her hand to her lips.
You laugh. "No, idiot. You do chest palpitations. Breathing into someone is a last ditch effort. It's for the movies."
Jo looks around herself slowly. "Where's the raft?"
"Funny thing - I must have lost it when saving your life." You can hardly believe her. It's like she doesn't even react to death!
"Who's bag is that?"
"Yours. I sort of just grabbed for one I could carry before it all rushed off." You half lie. You really did specifically go for hers. You are not entirely sure why. Now you have no clothes.
Jo fiddles with the zipper of her hoodie, and you realize you must have done something to it. You do not look long, as you see her flat stomach and the middle of the small bra she has on showing the soft roundness of her small chest, and you do not have much to cover yourself with. "Must have wrecked it, sorry. Need help?"
"No, I got it." She says, but clearly has given up on it. You take the time to move the bag to her, and she pulls out her boots.
"No chance I could at least get some socks?" You ask.
Jo seems to realize the state your in, and almost looks a little flush. She looks to her own leggings, and you see she has no socks at all.
"Of course." You say, and look to the mansion. "So, what now?"
"We are doing this." She says heartily. "For the sake of your clothes!"
You laugh. "Alright, how?"
Scaling the mansion is necessary, and climbing is definitely what Jo does. Still, moving inside the mansion would make it safer, though you do not like the idea of walking around barefoot in a possibly abandoned wood home.
