Let Emily walk Brandon to the school and continue your day

You decide to leave Brandon in Emily's care. "Have a good day, you two," you say, turning back towards your house.
Emily smiles. "We'll be fine."
Brandon waves at you as Emily guides him towards school.
You slowly stroll back towards your house. You've gone one block when you hear sirens. An ambulance is coming down the street. You speed up your pace in time to see the paramedics leap out of the now-stopped ambulance and place the original bully who attacked Brandon on a stretcher.
"We'd better get him to the hospital quickly," one of them says. "Look how those ribs are bowed in. He's definitely got a punctured lung."
Must have been that last kick the second bully gave him while he was lying on the ground, you think. The paramedics get him in the ambulance, which then speeds off.
You arrive at your home shortly thereafter. Valerie's car is still in the driveway. You recall that she doesn't have any early classes today.
