Your father, the King himself
From Create Your Own Story
"Mind your tongue boy! There still be at least one man in the realm who you shall meet with some respect" Your father replies. You knew with everything happening today that you had to see him at some point, you just wished it wouldn't be so damned early. Still, you're not one to refuse a War Lord, especially one you're related to. You rush to put a robe on and open the door, allowing him to enter.
"I've a short time left on this world, I won't have you be wasting any more of it!" As he comes in, walking slowly and painfully. He should probably be using a cane or see a doctor, but either one would be admitting weakness. He sits at the edge of the bed, resting from the arduous journey from his room to yours.
"Good morning to you too, old man" Despite being so similar, the two of you have never really gotten along. Perhaps the similarities are the reason you two have been at ends for so long.
"A good morning to you perhaps. You're about to get what you've always wanted. Me? I now have to watch you bumble around like a fool who thinks he knows what he's doing."
"Than why step aside old man?" You ask
The King coughs into his robe before answering "That's the first decent question I've heard from you in a long time. Now you listen here: I had to wait until my father passed away before the Crown was handed to me. He took the crown from his father before him with a dagger in the night, and so on. For all of our families success, each of us have been feeling in the dark for the proper path to take, and none of us have done so without getting dangerously close to a cliff. I want to help guide you down your new path, so you can avoid the wrong turns that I made in your place..." That's probably the closest your father has ever gotten to saying something kind to you in recent memory.
"The crown is a heavy burden, son, and removing it from my brow may yet extend my time here. With that, the sooner the better..." He struggles to get back up on his feet.
