See off the Convicted

The Convicted is held by the Guard from behind, who is roughly shoving Alphari forward. You walk calmly alongside the prisoner. You think ahead... You will walk outside, raise your arms, and announce you have sentenced the Convicted to a year in the Arena. They will all wildly cheer, and then talk for the next few weeks about what the odds are on how long he would survive, and various other miscellanea. The Arena is a huge field, around 100 herti (145 square kilometres), filled with trees, a desert, a lake, and a huge subterranean network of caves and tunnels- all this is surrounded by the a sharp drop, a huge gaping cavern which encircles 'the arena'. The Prisoner is given the choice of one weapon, one medical item, and one other object which doesn't fall into either of the two former categories in order to survive the twelve months. No one ever does, of course. However, some people have made it to 8 months. Why is it so difficult? The Arena actually consists of wave after wave of a variety of creatures, each increasingly dangerous, from Yis (small, venemous worms which crawl extremely fast through the ground (10 km/h), and can inject themselves directly into the bloodstream) to the Collosi (gargantuan titans, ancient beings which roam the bottom of the chasm surrounding the Arena. They are vicious, move extremely fast, and have incredible sight, vision, and are highly intelligent).You continue to walk, until you reach the outside. You raise your arm to the sky, announce the Convicted is sentenced to a year in the Arena. You decide to:
