Eyes wide with the shock of seeing the figure in the distance, Jezzi froze at first as her mind rushed to make sense of what she was seeing. Was there actually someone out there, watching her? If so, how long had they been there for? Minutes? Hours? Days? The thought of this made her heart pick up pace and start to hammer in her chest as scenarios of mysterious figures watching her as she slept wheeled around in her mind, joined with the knowledge that Bella had gone missing recently. Had someone similar been standing, staring at her window, too? Waiting for the opportune moment to drag her away into the night?

The thoughts chilled her farm more than the night air could, and summoning a burst of courage, she quickly leaned forward and grabbed the outside shutters, closing them all to quickly and with an audible thunk, followed by the latch locking in place. Heart still beating fast and hands shaking, she closed the internal shutters quickly after and, after making sure that they were clocked as well, buried herself under in her bed, pulling the covers up over herself in an attempt to hide from those eyes that, even now she imagined moving closer and closer to her window, the figure to whom they belonged reaching out to grasp the wood and pull it open...

Curling up into a ball, Jezzi didn't even notice the heat anymore, or how she stuck to the slightly sweaty bed. Her mind was whirling around and making her consciousness focus on her window beyond all other stimuli. She lay there, curled up, shivering, until her mind overloaded itsself with terrifying thoughts of what it was out there, where it had come from, and all the varied scenarios of what it wanted and what it could do, and switched off, plummeting her into a black, dreamless sleep...
