Katie took the note, which had a short introduction, before a long speech. Kate sighed as she figured her partner still came through. However, she read the first part to herself, and was shocked to realize what she was in for. It read:
"Hey Katie, it's Harper. Sorry I couldn't deliver this in person, but I want to make sure it looks like I didn't plan this. I am waiting outside the door for my cue. All you have to do is read what I typed below, and follow the secret instructions I put in parentheses. Good luck, partner!"
Katie began to read her part, not really paying attention to what she was saying until she reached the instructions.
Katie: I'm sorry, I don't know what happened to my partner, but it looks like I have to do the presentation by myself. So, I should start by saying that our, or my, topic for this presentation is "A visual interpretation of a passage from Shakespeare's Sonnet #18". Ahem. "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?/Thou art more lovely and more temperate/Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May..."
Katie trailed off, as this is where Harper had inserted her instructions to Katie. They read:
"I want you to do exactly as I specify here. Or else, I'll tell everyone about the time you crapped your pants during class, and I covered for you while you went to clean up. Now, what I want you to do is..."
