You follow the small path the creature made through the forest until a sight makes you stop.
You are standing outside a huge fortress, which is even bigger than the castle you lived in. Peeking through some trees, you a large gate guarded by three more creatures like the one you just encountered. They are clearly noticing their friend's absence.
