You wake up as if from a nightmare. Jumping out of bed ready to face the invisible foe which does not exist. Calming down you notice that it's still dark outside as you look out of your window. From the corner of your eye you see a letter laying on the desk and remember that you have seen a letter eerily similar before; from a time that you barely remember eating away at you from the back of your mind. You decide to read through it:
Dear Corvo. I'd like to thank you for rescuing me from that assassination attempt. Though my father suggested I choose someone older and more experienced as my royal protector I have decided to select you instead. Your skills are no doubt in excess of anyone I have ever seen and you're much closer to my age than any of the other candidates... so maybe we can become friends? Anyway, don't tell father that I sent a letter to you; especially the part about me telling you about my choice. So act surprised when I announce it okay. See you tomorrow, I hope your as excited as me.
In a rush it comes back to you. The years spent harnessing your skill. The hardships you've had to endure during the Rat Plague. The years spent training Empress Emily... Your daughter...
