You awake with a startling gasp, the sounds of rushing water filling your eardrums and complete darkness. For a few, terrifying moments you are sure you're still on board the plane as it sinks into the dark abyss, and you thrash about screaming, salt water filling your mouth. But your hands and legs catch something solid- land. You claw and push yourself up, gasping, as you take account of your surroundings, your heart throbbing painfully in your throat. You're lying on a small beachhead, the warm surf gently crashing around you. Looking backwards as you sit up, you see nothing except the painful blueness of the ocean and the sky. Ahead of you in the jungle, overgrown with trees and vegetation, looks nigh on impenetrable. And rising from the middle of it, a jagged pile of rocks- a tall hill, if you will. Suddenly, there comes a crashing noise from ahead, and a middle-aged looking woman wanders out of some bushes. You recognise her from the flight. Her dark, auburn hair is frizzled and wet, as are her cargo pants and checkered shirt. She runs to you as she sees you, breathless.
"Oh my god, are you alright? I didn't know anyone else made it off that plane- thank god!"
You start talking, and soon discover that her name is Moira. She's a 38 year old writer, who had been travelling on a tropical holiday to celebrate the release of her new novel. She postulates that the only reason she survived was because the door at the back of the plane next to her seat blew off shortly before crashing into the ocean. She couldn't remember anything else except washing up ashore.
You both take the opportunity to traverse your surroundings- and to your horror discover that you're both stuck on a tiny desert island, with no sight of other land for miles. The immensity of the situation starts to dawn on you as the huge, orange sun begins to set on the horizon, giving the sky a bloody palette. The two of you sleep out on the beach, still more or less shell shocked. Luckily, it's a warm night and the weather is calm.
Moira wakes you up the next morning, looking tired. She suggests you both go and do something to settle in. What do you want to do?
