"Why don't you give me that weapon and tell me what happened here?" you say, gently, while taking small steps toward the girl.
She looks to the broom, then to you, and then holds it out for you to take. You quickly relieve her of it before she can change her mind.
"It... it was horrible," she says as tears well up in her eyes, "He... he just went crazy. He took out a gun... He started shooting. My mum... my mum... my... "
She sniffs and closes her eyes for a few seconds, trying to calm herself so she can finish: "She got hit first... he was supposed to marry her... but he shot her. How could someone do that? And then he just... turned to everyone else... and started shooting. It was just horrible..."
You turn and glance toward the doorway, remembering that man you ran into on the stairs.
"Is... is it safe? Am I safe... ?" She asks, sounding a little hopeful that it is all over.
