Instantly, Miranda yowls in pain. You cover her mouth with your left hand, and she tries to escape so she can cry out.
"Shh! Shh, Miranda, Miranda, I'm sorry! You have to be quiet, or you won't get to be a mommy!" You say desperately, hoping to calm her down.
"I don't want it! I don't want to be a mommy any more. You hurt me, Josh, you hurt me!" she lashes at you, tears streaming down her face.
"Miranda, you wanted me to, remember? Just calm down, the pain will go away, I promise. And then you get to have your very own baby!"
She's heaving, hyperventilating sobs, but she stops trying to scream out. You don't move your finger one millimeter, leaving it inside her, feeling her squeeze you rhythmically with her sobs. You lie down next to her and turn her so you're spooning, but keep your finger inside. You run your hands through her hair, trying to console her as her tears drip into her pillow. "It's ok, Miranda, it's ok," you say, again and again.
Slowly, her sniffles die down. She turns to you. "Josh, why did it hurt so much?" She stares at you with her big eyes.
"I'm sorry, Miranda," you say, "I didn't want to hurt you. It was better for me to do it this way."
She gives one more big sniffle, and nods her head. "Ok. I'm sorry, Josh. I trust you. Will you give me a baby now?" She stares at you imploringly.
- Hearing "I trust you" destroys your will. You just can't do this any more.
