Your foxhole is sufficient, and the metal object below is probably a shallow-buried power line that would be more than enough to fry you, so you leave it alone. You start mounding the dirt up at the sides, creating a reinforced crater for you to live in.
"This is better than Mommy and Daddy's house," you imagine. "I'm going to live out here forever. I've got bugs to eat, and my shoes are nearby. What more could you want?"
