Spark is a fledgling social work/social service group at Chennai Mathematical Institute. The conception and name are due to Bodhayan Roy, a first-year student at CMI. Currently, around 20 CMI students are actively involved with Spark activities.

Past activities

The main activity of Spark members in August-December 2006 was educating the children of construction workers involved in building the CMI hostel. Check out Educating the kids: the story for more details.

Activities currently being considered

Mrs. Rajeshwari Nair gave some suggestions for future Spark activities in a mail to the Spark mailing list.

Following up these suggestions, a meeting was held on January 11, 2007, to discuss directions for Spark in the January - April 2007 semester and beyond. Details of the meeting are available here.

Mailing list

Spark has its own mailing list: spark at cmi dot ac dot in. The mailing list is managed by Anirbit Mukherjee. Here's the Web link for the mailing list. Much of Spark's official communication is carried out through this mailing list.

Wiki

This wiki is an unofficial record of Spark activities. The wiki is managed by Vipul Naik.

Finances/funds

Spark finances are managed by Bodhayan Roy and Moulik. Information on Spark finances are available over the mailing list. It will also shortly be put up over the wiki.
